Is it worth spending big bucks on Chainsaw Pants?

Divide the cost of a comfortable pair of chainsaw pants that you WANT to wear by the amount of working days per year (average). Is that daily price worth it? I’m going to guarantee so. Even cheaper than the daily coffee that people tend to go for.

    Show me your SNAGS

Nice work on these! Personally I haven’t done a ton of them but do try to talk clients into it when a removal is in a good location for it. Pretty rarely do they accept. Most recent one was a couple of weeks ago. They wanted it sort of artsy and not like natural breaks so we had to do flat cuts...

    70-90cc saw recommendation please

I have never thrown the chain on my 395. How old is your bar? If it is older and worn “wide” you can throw the chain a lot easier.

    70-90cc saw recommendation please

My vote is a 395. You have the extra power when needed and it is just an all around badass saw. I’m a big husky fan but would steer you away from the 572. I would rather double cut all day with my 562 then use the 572. Maybe a mid will change my thoughts on it but that is where I currently stand...

    SGR on B&B tree

Good post and sad to see how often this happens. Good reminder of how fast SGR’s will take their toll. I have advised clients to take their trees back to the nursery and the nurseries tend to tell them that their arborist does t know what he is talking about. Always fun to throw out ANSI 60.1...

    Today....

A couple unusual cottonwood removals. They were very almost “columnar” which made for easy crane picks. So nice to still get excited about crane work, almost like a childish excitement.

    Questionable TIP

So hard to tell from the photo. Looks like you could easily tie in to the other lead, or have one system in each lead, or pre-direct with a basal from “other” lead and go straight up to questionable lead and be pretty sorted. Span rig between the two? Tons of options have been suggested and they...

trades/purchase looking for akimbo or rigging gear or whatever!!

Are you just looking for trade? If willing to sell I’m interested in the snake anchor, green pinto and the ISC pulley. If trade only then no worries.

Show me your vise mounted on truck or chipper

We installed one on the fender of our chipper. Just a 4” bench vise does the trick, although a 3” would work just fine. We don’t have a shop yet so this is the place we do our sharpening for now.

UK 12 Evo 2’s, New. Trade Me (Sold/Traded!)

Since there are so many here with Gumby feet, I guess I’ll post these. Got these a couple months ago for an employee but they were too small. He wore them around his house and quickly realized they were too small. They were supposed to be size 13 but apparently a UK 12 is more like a US 12.5...

    What Grinds Your Gears?

One could easily argue that “thats what it’s there for” could also be applied to the strap , just saying.

I want to “Shape” My Tree

I’m my experience, the client does t understand what they need so “shaping” is what comes out of their mouth. They don’t always mean a perfect lollipop shape, just more of a uniform canopy. When they use that word, I just explain that we will reduce limbs that stick outside of the canopy profile...

What kind of tree is this?

Looks to be a cedar from my view. Hard to zoom in close enough but maybe a deodara cedar?

    Introductions / level of experience

My journey with trees started out late December of 2009 on the North shore of Oahu. Previous to that I had experience with saws from a few season of wild land fire fighting. In Hawaii I was lucky enough to start off with an Arborist who was a competition climber as well. We were a small team so...

    Equipment financing?

AP financing has been great for me, especially after getting run over by First Pacific Funding. I worked with Jake through AP and he has been a bulldog to get things done quickly. He did mention to me that if you are going for new equipment, in house options usually have a way better rate and...
