I've been trying to ignore the potential recreational activities possible with owning my own crane, with 131' of stick. This video will make that harder! Very cool.....
On my last annual inspection, it was pointed out to me that I needed a 5lb. min fire extinguisher in the cab of the crane, which I now have. I told the inspector I already had one in the truck cab to meet the DOT requirements (and I have been asked to show it on a couple roadside/port of entry...
Re: TCI\'s Effer 655 Knuckle Boom
A huge advantage of having down and outs instead of a-frame outriggers. BUT, according to my crane inspecter anyway, OSHA says that if you are short jacked on one side (and you better have factory load charts for the various amount of outrigger extention) you...
The safety officers at the plants I work at want to see a rigger card, plus signaler and operator though mot required yet in Idaho. So, going beyond what OSHA requires more then pays for the certs and who knows may help in getting some slack if I screw up in some other way. The big thing I came...
The way I understand it, as coming from my OSHA instructor (NOT OSHA per se, but a private guy who provides training and certs to OSHA specs, so I could pick his brain "off the record") if you hold the cert's for rigging and signaling, you can determine who is competent. But, that is just for...
Re: TCI\'s Effer 655 Knuckle Boom
I had a remote on a Terex 3470 I had a few years back, and all I can say is once you get a handle on how to run it, you ARE Superman! It was crude (NBB)compared to what you have, though I have heard since that even for the stick booms they are much advanced...

Also, do you, or any other owners find it difficult sneaking her through brush and branches with all the hoses, etc on the exterior of the boom? We have a standard Terex Stinger 23.5T straight boom, and that two block cable is always catching...
Re: TCI\'s Effer 655 Knuckle Boom
I like the fact you used a used truck, after refurbishing it. That saved big bucks I'm sure! Great looking setup showing how to get max bang for the buck, sweet.!
Stronger then normal winds from kind of an odd direction....yeah you'd think if it stood that long no prob but it was in fine shape right up to the end but this storm did it in! Probably lifted the roof then the walls cave after losing the bracing effect of the roof, just a guess.
All of us there were friends and have decades of construction experience, a pretty fun day actually! The only thing that got damaged much was the only thing insured, the big boat!
I found it more interesting then a more rural scene, just a lot more going on to look at. You got a problem with cities, fine, but most live in or near them. You realize living in a city or built up area is many many times more efficient then living in a rural area? I drive 3 miles to the post...
I spent 6.5 hrs yesterday in low 20' temps, no sun, and about a 10 MPH breeze, what you could call "brisk". Just sitting there, not moving other the hand controls. My first extended cold weather job since the cabn and it was GREAT! The door still is not finished as per the gap in the rear and...
What I really wanted to do was buy a new 40 ton Manitex WITH cab, the glide rotation/foot brake feature, pilot controls, wireless remotes, high horsepower engine, full locking diff's, and all the other bells and whistles. By staying with my paid for 22101S a while longer, I am not 100K plus in...

do you have a picture of the roof?
And how do you control the boom up/down in that unit?, I only see one control on the right hand side.

A common mod I'm told for the Manitexs is to take the stock pedastal mounted boom up/control, and floot mount it. That's the way mine...

This pic shows the heater fuel tank (2.5 gallon) and 30 watt solar panel with deep cycle battery. The heater (and Sirius sound system) can thus be run when the PTO isn't engaged. This allows me to pre heat the cab on the way to a job, and listen to the radio when doing...
The two speed windshield wiper setup cost an additional 240 bucks I forgot to include in the total cost. No wiper on the skylight, I'll have to see if that is a problem or not.
The cab was built in place in 5 pieces, 4 sides and then the roof. 12 gauge steel brake formed and bolted to the...
I decided at the last minute not to make the windshield opening, I figured it really wouldn't be any much work more if I decide I need to in the future, and would have been a lot more hassle. Plus, the opening side windows, door, and most of all the skylight should allow pretty much the same...

I went with anti rotation cable long ago, but still have the swivel my ball came equipped with. I'm not really concerned about it failing so don't bother to change it.
