I feel obligated to mention this, as I have recently talked about the CraneSmart system. To my surprise, a load I was picking the other day that indicated 14,000 lbs (including the 300 lb load block so the load was 13,700) when taken to the crap metal dealer with their for sure accurate scales...
I was flying over and he was working right there on a airport "cabin", so it was a no brainer that I would land and talk with him a bit! He built this truck up himself, AWD! Quite the beast, though a bit more awkward in use and in getting into tight spots then my 22101S. He had some nice...
The Manitex OEM LMI was inoperative when I bought my 22101S. Rather then fix it I went right to a CraneSmart wireless ATB with the load cell. So, up to me to see how much boom I have out, what the boom angle is, and what the weight on the hook is. I love the simplicity (and simplicity means...
I had the exact situation happen yesterday that I posted earlier about above: some framers that use the "other guy", called me out of the blue and with very short notice, as the the other guy was broke down. Once on site and set up, I twice lifted entire bundles of trusses (2 to 3 K lbs)and...

A reasonable solution to this would be to publish local, national even international appropriate hourly rates for a given service. I could double my rates I'd bet.

This wouldn't work because the variables are to many as to what the rate should...

Also like I think was said once. It worked out good for us to buy the newest tallest crane we could reasonable afford that does 99% of what we need. Then we bring in a NBT 45 for that other 1% of the time. Being that we made a smart purchase price wise. No one has a heart attack if the...
There's a guy I've seen around my town for a few years now that has the biggest damn extension ladder I've ever seen! He'll have it jacked up and tied off what looks to be up 50' or so, and then he'll climb up and start cutting. Don't know if he climbs also, the big donkey ladder is what stands...
Here in SE Idaho, NO tree companies use cranes, not one I have ever seen anyway and I think I would have noticed! From what I've learned here, it has occurred to me that if I chose to get into the tree care business, using my existing crane equipment and skills, I could probably kick [pick a...
A spring latch kit should be at most 10 to 20 bucks, for my 5 ton headache ball I use most of the time about 7 bucks. My little 1 ton i use setting trusses less then 5.
Whatever you get buy a few as they wear out regularly.
This is my first winter with the crane in my new heated town building, perfect timing as it has been unusually cold so far! I have a nice big shop at home, but too far from town especially in the winter as it is "up the mountain". I needed a crane shed just big enough for it and no more.
18'w...
That's the first 22101S I've seen with a front stabilizer. Sweet. You order that special? That is a clean looking rig! By several years of operation, I've learned what I can get away with working over the front, with the tires in the air, and it's quite a lot though I of course prefer over the...
I have not done the math, but I think the tire loading of the 101S as compared to what it can do crane wise, is pretty good. It is light on it's feet in other words. I have never cracked a driveway, yet.
You have a heated cab? Yesterday I spent 7 hrs in windy low 20 degree temps, and I had...
And, besides possibly buggering up the tip sheaves and the boom tip, it can unlock the becket, which is like a chinese finger trap thing usually, the harder you pull the tighter it clamps. When two blocked the becket can be loosened. Really, all kinds of bad things can happen. We have a local...
Wow.... just yesterday, before seeing this vid today, I called my suppliers and ordered new RR wire rope for my winch, 325' of 9/16". I feel better about the bill now, $700.00. I sold the old one to a farmer for 100.00 BTW. The stuff is cheap for how many hours I get out of a length, several...

All great points brought up by everyone. I am leaning towards a dump. Allmark, why do they need to make these trucks so long? Is a 20' bed really necessary dump or non dump, regardless? I have attached a picture of the truck they want to build for me. Two tag axles. I see some of you...
That sounds about right, my 22 ton Manitex 22101S weighs in at 43K. That's with lots of rigging, and a couple spreader bars, and other junk. Probably 1500 lbs extra gear.
