Max chainsaw bar length for different chain types

Use a good quality bar oil and the wear won’t be that significant. Will a 362 pull a bar that size yes, will it be slow yes, will it be cheaper than buying another saw yes. If the saw is only going to make the odd cut here and there that require a bar that big I would definitely run a bigger...

    Poisoned trees

Hey all. Just seen in our local paper that someone has drilled and posioned a number of River Red Gums (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) on the shore of a large water reservoir. From the photo in the artiythey appear to be juvenile trees probably in their early teens. Just wondering if anyone has...

    Spur climbing storm damaged trees

Thing I struggle with in our eucalyptus is the lack of limbs and crotches to place your feet on or in, with spikes on it doesn’t matter

    Spur climbing storm damaged trees

I quite enjoy spurless climbing, the part I find tricky is work positioning. Need to add a few more pieces of gear as our climbing setup for powerlines is all spur work

Max chainsaw bar length for different chain types

Using a full Comp chain not every cutter is taking a full bite, due to the porpoising action in which way a chain cuts, You may find on the 362 that at that length bar the difference between a regular or skip chain might be minimal. Just my 2cents worth

    Advice pruning Oak trees

YSome photos from today, these better show the damage that winds did to these trees, this is only a glimpse of the total devastation to this row of trees.

    Advice pruning Oak trees

The English oaks appear to thrive here, I should take some measurements tomorrow, these trees were planted in 1936 and would measure at least 1200mm dbh if not much more, they probably stand 20-25 metres tall with a canopy spread of about 20m. Photo is an attempt to show one of many leaders with...

    Advice pruning Oak trees

They seem to do quite well so long as they are planted in a suitable location. Many people seem to plant them very close to buildings, driveways etc that contribute to compaction and lack of water in the drip zone

    Advice pruning Oak trees

I was told that when a branch snaps or tears out the wood is severed between the cells va cutting a limb which will sever the cells

    Advice pruning Oak trees

Are you suggesting that there is no urgency to prune and remove broken limbs??? Many of the limbs that have broken, torn off are greater than 20” diameter and have left huge scars.

    Spur climbing storm damaged trees

These were exactly my thoughts, there were leaders that measured 20” diameter snapped and torn in half!! Although I was able to complete the job entirely without spikes, it would have been much quicker and more comfortable for work positioning on spikes! I did get a great sense of satisfaction...

    Advice pruning Oak trees

So if I was to start remedial works on the trees ASAP that should give the trees the best chance to to start the codit process prior to shutting down for winter?? Most of my work is in eucalyptus so just trying to make sure I get my facts correct and do right by the trees and the client

    Advice pruning Oak trees

Howdy all, Have a client who has a row of 100 year old oak trees down his driveway way about 15 of them that have taken a big hit during a recent storm. Many of the trees have up to a third of the canopy snapped out and hung up in them. The hangers don’t pose any immediate danger to people or...

    Spur climbing storm damaged trees

Managed to get the tree done today, all hangers removed and all snapped branches pruned back to the most suitable growth point possible. This particular tree was a very old and over spread London plane, located at an original homestead built in 1861 in our local country area. This tree was one...

    Spur climbing storm damaged trees

Gday all, Doing a heap of storm clean up for a client after a freak wind event we had. Have been there for 2 days already cleaning up material on the ground with probably a week to go. My question is, there are a few very large wide canopy trees that have had the tops blown out and large...

    Work Photos

Got to remove this big, dead, rotten unstable eucalyptus today. Ground was to steep to get a bucket truck in, probably to strep for a spider lift? So we decided to tie the tree back using the winch on the ute. All went well and had it down safely in just under an hour
