It's a shame ole wort isn't hanging out here anymore. Good dude. He's the reason I keep dawn in my splice kit.
Cougar still exists but most vendors don't carry it. Too inconsistent. Which is a shame because a good hank of cougar is a beautiful thing.
Yeah, I climb 1/2 a lot on conifers and the hh is the only way to go for me. I really wanted to find an all mechanical I liked, but it seems like the hybrid mech/cord devices are still number 1.
General rule of thumb: the larger the DB cordage, the easier it is to splice. That being said, there is a definite learning curve to doing db splices. I still get in to spells from time to time when things don't go exactly like they should and I have to cut off a failed splice. Not often, but it...
For throw line I just do a series of half hitches. As far as using a porty for tensioning, i usually install the rope in the porty, then put a prussick on the rope. I'll put a biner and a pulley on the rope, then use a rope puller through that pulley to pull the line stopping every so often to...
If it were me and I was just winging it, I do locking brummels on one end and just do a standard splice on the other end, whipping and lockstiching the mess out of the whole thing. Followed by heat shrink at the throats and cordura over the whole thing.
I take that back, if I were doing this...
I'm not sure how you'd pull off the second brummel once you have a ring in one end. I'm no 12 hollow master, tho, so maybe someone will be able to enlighten both of us.
Austipin.....dedgum they make some good stuff. Love those buckles.
Webbing can be found in about 1000 different places. I'm trying to remember who all I did business with when I was stitching up my own custom suspenders but all I can remember for sure is milspecmonkey and sgtknots. There were...
Honestly, not a lot. It's my favorite saddle for a reason, afterall. Not only can I rebuild it less expensively than other saddles, it's an adjustable enough system to make it very comfortable to me. It's tough as nails. Rides higher than the treemo, which I like. Not hard to get in and out of...
My dudes, I'm way more excited about this than I should be. Love the MCRS and I'm stoked about it coming back (and better than before).
I don't need a new one, the original isn't showing any wear, but I'll probably buy one anyway. If pads only are offered, it's a no brainer.
Thanks for the insight. It's a shame. It's been on my list of stuff to get one day for years, but I never got around to it. Such is life.
While we are on the subject of discontinued products, did the throwline reel got discontinued due to slow sales as well? I tell ya, that's a real bummer. I...
Man, that's a lot of random stuff.......I couldn't make an offer for the lot that wouldn't be insulting (nor would I want to pay for the shipping for a lot of this), but I'd certainly consider some of the splicing stuff if you decide to split it up. PM me if you decide to sell the wand and...
