I ordered a 600’ of this stuff in 1/2” I was pleasantly surprised to find big eye splices on each end too. I cut one off at about 15’ and am using it as a lighter deadeye sling.
I’ve only had it about a month and used it on 4 jobs but did some natural crotch around 400 lb pieces and it’s holding up well. So far I’m happy. The pigmentation/ dye job is kinda uneven throughout, lighter or darker in some spots but the build quality seems great.
Prices might show US or Canadian dollars, I added a loopie sling to my order to make it over 200$ US to get free shipping. Nylon core, so a little stretch.
I haven’t seen spools of decent double braids for anything close to this price.

Gtfo.. that's crazy cheap Bango. Who's making it? Looks similar to what that Casto guy on ebay sometimes has as 1/2" bull rope.. I know they both purchase wholesale from T-berg & others.. but can't recall it's construction off the top of my head.

This rope is actually from a test run we did with a new factory overseas. We've been trying to nail down a cost effective coated double braid for a while. One factory in particular chased us down so we gave them a shot. The first batch came in rock hard as it was way overcoated (it eventually softens up but when the rope is fresh it can be hard to tie), that batch is currently sitting in our overstock area on clearance for a ridiculous price for anyone bold enough to try it. The stuff linked in the previous post was the same factory's second try. They did a much lighter coating and it met the strength requirements but overall we weren't 100% happy with it and listed it for what we felt like it was worth.

Essentially it is a good rope for the type of crew that destroys the rope when things go wrong instead of spending the time to do a job right, not understanding how much a proper bull rope costs. It will hold up well, but it isn't the same quality out of our New England Ropes STA-SET double braid for example (nor is it meant to be at that price). We don't have much of this rope left and once it is gone its gone (soon to be replaced by a better quality rope at a slightly higher price)

By the way, funny thing about that long eye that was mentioned, the factory was supposed to put 12" (inch) eyes and for some reason read it as a 12' (foot) eye. FML. We've since stopped working with that factory as things were too inconsistent with them. We have a new rope coming out in the new year that will hopefully be the solution we've been waiting for to get a cost effective, high quality, high strength coated bull rope. For a taste, you can see the uncoated rope that we just released this summer here. Size for size it has the same strength as Samson's Stable Braid, at a much lower price.

Finally, to answer your question, yes we do buy a ton of closeout items from Teufelberger but unlike Casto we actually know what we're selling. Maybe I'm being too honest!

Let me know if you have any other questions. We actually do have a Black Friday sale coming up as well, where pretty much everything on our site will be on sale. Keep an eye on our Instagram/Facebook for the most up to date information!

Glad to know you're on the buzz. You're insight made me laugh.

Maybe I'm being too honest!

In spite of our many flaws, we actually value that kind of honesty above anything, around here. When we don't have to take wild guesses about stuff, we can make better choices and spend our money where it will do the most good, for the way each of us works. There wasn't much mystery surrounding the cheap rope... I think most of us knew it wouldn't be top notch stuff... but, we do a lot of light rigging and pulling on stuff that might not be healthy for the rope. Sometimes, a "disposable" rope is just what we want for some task. Save money by using a throw-away item because it would be a senseless waste of money to ruin a higher-priced, quality item. I suspect that the rejected production run you spoke of would still be better than anything at Walmart or a big box store, and would last a lot longer. At that price, I'd burn through that stuff and never look back.

Thanks for posting this information, and welcome to the Buzzboard. There's probably not enough of us here to make you rich, but a lot of folks view the site, and search engines spread the news very quickly. I wish more of our suppliers would interact with us, here!

@MapleLeafRopes Which of the low cost ropes would you recommend for a portable winch? 3/8-1/2 double braid is what they say to use...

Sorry for the delay, was out of the office yesterday. For the winch, it really depends on how hard you want to push the rope. We have a cost effective/low stretch uncoated polyester double braid that basically all of our tower customers (who almost always have a portable winch) use here. Of course that coated double braid we've been talking about is a killer deal as well and at that price its a better choice if you are OK with 1/2" (since it doesn't come in 3/8").

More often than not we're replacing the double braided ropes with HMPE these days as you can fit more rope on the drum (by reducing the rope diameter while still keeping a high break strength). It's way more abrasion resistant, lighter and has pretty much zero stretch. The winch kits are shown here and the bulk rope is shown here. Keep in mind HMPE sits differently on the drum since it is so slippery so you have to leave more layers on the drum and keep an eye on how it spools back on so it doesn't dive on you. Even with those last two points, you'll love the upgrade. If you want to stick with double braid we do have HMPE-Polyester double braid as well but that is harder to inspect and isn't as cost effective as the 12 strand since it has a more complicated production process.

Does that help? Let me know if you have any other questions, I'm always happy to talk about rope or gear!

Also, thanks for the compliment on the website we've put a ton of effort into it to make it what it is today! We try our best to have a wide variety of items for as many industries as possible while (hopefully) keeping it easy to navigate and not overwhelming the user with options. We're also adding items all of the time. Keep an eye on our social media as that is usually where we announce any new products.

Thanks!

No problem! We've been on for a while but I haven't had as much time as I would like to have had to keep an eye on posts. Also I want to try to strike a delicate balance between offering insight and not sounding like a corporate shill or roaming advertisement! We've really started to put a heavy focus on selling direct to the end users in the Arborist world within the last few years and I really believe we can save you guys time and money. We're also open to feedback on anything from product selection to pricing or anything else. Feel free to get in touch with any questions!

Thanks.

Stellar, thank you for the in depth answer. Edit: can't wait for my 600' reel! Gotta stop it with this gear obsession...
