    Red Pine problem

Anyone see this on Red Pine trees? The bark seems to be falling off on several trees in different locations up here.

    Winch size? What to buy?

I guess it boils down to how stuck? I would winch it using MA if it wasn't down to the axle. I have used the hand rope winch to winch the truck out once.

    Winch size? What to buy?

Most of my work now is home and cottage tree removals. I like lifting dead standing trees off the ground with it, raising limbs back up when they get hung up from lowering. Tip tying and raising the limb up and then dropping it straight down, the winch is a real asset in tree work. I still use...

Re: \"Not Intended for Fall Arrest\" They are two differnt classes of equipment. Fall arrest which slows a fall and absorbs impact then work positioning which secures you to location where your work can be done. You wear fall arrest (harness)in a bucket and work positioning (saddle) in the...

    Hole in Pine

Looks like a boring beetle. Is that a red pine? I'm seeing red pine with all the bark off the main stem twenty feet off the ground for about twenty feet up. Not sure what's causing it yet but all the needles are still green. Here's a picture of a spruce that had been bored, be careful climbing...

    fallen climber

Very sad to lose someone like this. I'm not sure I understand the reason for the failure but it sounds like he was rigging off the tree he was in, is that correct?

    Throw Hook On Heli-Loggers

Your weight is on the hook, if it breaks and comes back at you then you'll probably wish you had spent the $200.

I'm not sure Chris, maybe OSHA had a court case, lost and had to reword the standard.

    Throw Hook On Heli-Loggers

Chris, unless your tree is 150' tall or very close to the tree you are hooking too you are probably better off to set up a zip line. Your groundie can secure it at both ends near the ground.

    Heli-Loggers

Chris, the "or " would make it each separate. That's what it should be everywhere in my opinion. Like you, I use glasses when ever I can but when they fog up and it makes it dangerous to wear them then I shouldn't have to wear them and be faced with a fine.
