Heli-Loggers

Grais, that's very interesting about the eye regulations in BC if that's correct.

I wear the Bugz mesh goggles under my visor. No problem with those fogging up. I know that they don't meet ANSI Z87 regs but they are better than taking off a fogged up pair of safety glasses.

Though yesterday I was able to wear my regular safety glasses with no problem, but it wasn't hot and humid.

Chris, the "or " would make it each separate.
That's what it should be everywhere in my opinion.
Like you, I use glasses when ever I can but when they fog up and it makes it dangerous to wear them then I shouldn't have to wear them and be faced with a fine.

I wear glasses so it's not just a matter of PPe but seeing. If I take them off it is a fog. So, I tilt my head back or forward, give them a wipe but in the end I must have them on. I've thought about contacts and that may be the next step though I've yet to find a pair of safety glasses that completely keep sawdust out of my eyes, even with the screen.

my words exactly.

I put them on, (to be honest), usually if job is being filmed, but 90% of the time i have to take them off and throw them down to the ground because they become fogged so fast and often that it makes the work dangerous. There are very few days that the glasses will not fog up terribly with my hot head and this climate.

I wear the screen when climbing through the tree and when cutting. Which, if I'm not mistaken, the screen itself is currently adequate at this time since we are again grouped with "loggers" according to OSHA.

1910.266(d)(1)(vii)

The employer shall provide, at no cost to the employee, and assure that each employee wears the following:

1910.266(d)(1)(vii)(A)

Eye protection meeting the requirements of subpart I of Part 1910 where there is potential for eye injury due to falling or flying objects; and

1910.266(d)(1)(vii)(B)

Face protection meeting the requirements of subpart I of Part 1910 where there is potential for facial injury such as, but not limited to, operating a chipper. Logger-type mesh screens may be worn by employees performing chain-saw operations and yarding.

Kevin why does ANSI Z87 require safety glasses if you wear a helmet with a faceshield while OSHA (logging regs) doesn't?

I know a faceshield (wire mesh one) is not impact resistent like ANSI requires. I thought OSHA was the same way too. To me I would think that loggers would need the same type of eye protection that arborists need.
