    Eastern White Pine Removal

Very nicely executed. Nice to see the tape measure in use. Do you prefer the chain slings over rope slings?

What forces are applied here. Please.

[ QUOTE ] thank you both very much. It took 5 of those drops to break the new 3/4" bull rope. It broke at the half hitch before the running bowline on the trunk anchor. Using a block and our new tool, in combination. I wanted to know what the current belief was about the forces likely...

What forces are applied here. Please.

[ QUOTE ] Why not just terminate with a timber hitch Norm? jomoco [/ QUOTE ] I've had a timber hitch roll off the end of a small branch. Had I added a half or marline hitch, I know it wouldn't have. I was giving examples. Please don't take it as "you need to use this knot or hitch". There are...

What forces are applied here. Please.

[ QUOTE ] this is what I tie, because it makes sense, improves that bend (in the pea green color). Now.... What is this called, it does not match marl or half hitch pictures I have viewed in the past. (or maybe I'm wrong there). [/ QUOTE ] It's called a "Marline" hitch if it forms an...

    Rigging Whoopie

I like your ingenuity and process of constructing products like this. I have found that hollow braids, especially 2 end, "pick" very easily when running over rough barked trees, which will derate the strength. Although not adjustable, I use rigging friction savers made out of 1/2" and 5/8's" 3...

Access rope - sideloading the carabiner?

I agree with Oceans. Krabs are not designed for that application. Delta links are. Be sure to "wrench tighten it".

    Echo CS-355T

[ QUOTE ] Anything new to report over the last 10 days on this saw Norm? I used to be a big Echo bucket saw fan until they came out with the 360T. I don't think it was the saw so much as the carbs kept getting the snot beaten outta them by the ethanol. I've got a couple 200T Stihls but now...

    Chipper winch line

[ QUOTE ] The stitching looked shop and had a steel thimble in the eye. I dont know about the strength of stitching and I was just concerned because the winch is on a bandit 1890 and it drags some big stuff [/ QUOTE ] How bout a pic? What's the fiber? Is there a label on the stitching of...

    Concrete In Trunk

[ QUOTE ] In the fine print of our proposals their is a foreign objects disclaimer making the home owner responsible for time and materials. [/ QUOTE ] Ditto. Used to be pretty common in the North Shore of Chicago to fill cavities with concrete. If it is found while cutting, we tell the...

    MAD to saw operator?

[ QUOTE ] Soooo,,, I cannot find a definitive answer to the question of "How far should a bystander or co-worker be from a chainsaw operator?" or "What is the minimum approach distance to a sawyer with a running chainsaw?" [/ QUOTE ] I was told by Forest Apps: 2 bar lengths. Never stand...

    fast forward pruning deux

In N. E. Illinois, every "big" tree care company lion tails the trees. You can watch reputable tree care companies "strip" every tree they climb. We need to educate the public.

    Help calculating load

That will depend on the rope construction, diameter and fiber being used. The tree species, angle of the branch union, how much rope is in the system, pulley or natural crotch will play a role too.

    would like your thoughts

[ QUOTE ] Let me know what you think, thanks, http://youtu.be/Ro34czr_Ilo Climb Safe, Jim [/ QUOTE ] I've done the same thing using a: 1. Locking ladder snap spliced on to a lowering line and fixed loops/spliced eye slings. Lowered five limbs at a time using this method. 2. 5/8's" screw...

    split trees

It depends on the severity of the split. A temporary rope support is a start. After a tree risk assessment, if the split has 'side to side' movement, webbing straps are installed.
