    OSHA/ANSI eye protection

[ QUOTE ] does anyone have the verbage used by ANSI? Osha Regs are free to read online but ANSI makes you buy their published standards. I've never actually read the ANSI requirements for arboriculture. [/ QUOTE ] Phil, I had a copy of the 2012 standard and gave it to someone to review, I...

    big rigging gone wrong vid

[ QUOTE ] As a talking point, how would you guys have tried to make it work if money and equipment was of no concern? Just off the top of my head I was thinking 3 of the large dmm impact blocks beneath the notch with a combined total rating of 900kn breaking strength (not WLL, lets disregard...

    big rigging gone wrong vid

A 25,000 lb. ABS rope catching a 10,000 lb. log negative rigging, using branch unions? No rigging blocks, no rope friction devices. That's a 2.5 to 1 ratio on the rope. No way is that gonna hold, even using a 2 to 1 set up on the mass faling. It appears as though the rope broke at the shackle...

    Limb walk question

If I were scoring, I would have scored the station as completed. The climber did the right thing.

    Other Porty Mounting Options

I have used a large Porty on a pintle and tow hooks with a 5/8's" pear link. I like the Porty to be able rotate more than attaching to the pintle without a link allows it.

    Illinois TCC 2013

Sorry volunteers. I'm out as chair and don't want to ruffle any feathers, out of respect for the new chair. It's a tough gig chairing a local TCC. After chairing Illinois' for 17 years, I noticed it's getting harder and harder to get quality judges. My biggest fear was an injured climber due to...

Anyone used All gear TVP cord?

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] ... It's the 5/16's" diameter, which is a 16 strand. I removed 9 strands, instead of 8, as I found it grabbed just a bit better on my Rocket Line and Tachyon with the 7 strand bury. Yes, no brummels, just a straight bury. ... [/ QUOTE ] Why are you not going for locking...

    Splicing onto Round Thimbles

You are correct. Splicing tight around round thimbles will put stress/force on the 1st bury. A 60 degree angle is preferred at the 1st bury.

Strength loss in amsteel and friction degredation

I wouldn't "knot" amsteel. Tests have shown that knots pull out. It's an extremely slippery fiber. Another choice would be a polyester cover/dyneema core DB for knotting. I've been using Amsteel crane slings (spider legs) for years in 1/2" and 5/8" diameters. The stuff wears like Iron.

    Amsteel Loop Instead of MaxiPlate

[ QUOTE ] The rigging plate below will help with flipping issues around the speed line itself on the return to climber.. Tony [/ QUOTE ] Sometimes I'll attach a larger screw pin shackle to the bottom just for ballast. Works great.

Single or composite fibers for ropes.

[ QUOTE ] Am looking at replacing bull ropes and, as usual, have come back to the basic double braids. However, the question is now what material should I go with. Right now I am seeing no significant strength difference between polyester cover & core versus a composite rope with a...

    loopie slings and carabiners

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] A spliced eye sling is the BEST option for a porty. When I see a tree cutter using a whoopie or loopie for anchoring a porty, I think to myself "They must not know how to tie a cow hitch". [/ QUOTE ] Norm, do you feel the same about hanging blocks? I've heard people say...

    loopie slings and carabiners

[ QUOTE ] Has anyone used a loopie sling attached to a portawrap? What's the pro's and con's of using a loopie over a whoopie sling on a portawrap? Also, what carabiners do you normally use or would suggest for rigging limbs/logs up to like 600-800 pounds? I personall like 50Kn weight rating...
