I second the carpenters knife with exchangeable blades.
There are super (-expensive) scissors for that, but they get dull with time (quite fast actually) as well and sharpening them is not easy.

Yes, mainly the orientation of the biner thing and another advantage is the abrasion from the bridge gets spread around all the inside of the ring because it moves.

I remove a pair every 4 strands on 16-strand rope, so 8 strands are remaining on the taper.
I thought thats the standard to be honest!

As I know Dyneema for stitching weakens the splice more than Polyester or Nylon, because its so "sharp". The difference is measurable, some splicers I know did their testings.
I would not use Dyneema fishing line.
