    Another homeowner doozie ...

People around here always ask why we don't pay them for the wood. Like it's gold or something. Is it like that everywhere? This business is a racket, you charge me to cut the trees down and then you make a fortune off the wood

General questions regarding 12 strand hollow braid splicing

In my experience Amsterl doesn't make a good dead eye sling. Have you noticed how "slippery" it is? It doesn't grip itself very well which is why for splicing you need longer buries. Tying your dead eye sling with a cow or timber hitch will tend to walk a lot more than non high mod fibers. I...

    Riggers Choice

In reference to the hockling make sure your rope man switches direction on which way they put the rope into the porty or bollard. If you only have a GRCS, a Hobbs or some other ratcheting device you just have to deal with it since you can't very well change direction on those. Sometimes I'll...

    Double Block Rigging

Iirc there are a few posts on the buzz that refer to it as "Double whip tackle". I actually just used it for the first time the other day to lift a 12' log horizontal to vertical that was over a house. Didn't have to put the MA on the porty just two groundsmen on the line. You end up getting a 2...

    Torn meniscus

I used to be an avid cyclist so I thought it would be a good time to get back into it. My knee would pop something fierce with little down pressure even on flat terrain. I would just though the motion so it wouldn't pop. After months of doing this I was slowly able to ride with both legs...

    Torn meniscus

I had mine done around three yrs ago. Some days are better than others. My biggest regret is following docs recemondation of not doing physical therapy. He said as active as my job is I shouldn't need it. I can run a little but really have to concentrate on form and low impact when doing so.

Negative blocking: can we find better words?

How about "catch rigging". No matter what scenario it will always being falling past the block and have to catch it.

    Double mariners

You are looking at it as if it were a compound pulley system but it's a complex. They don't calculate the same. On Rope has a good section on this explaining the T- method. Here is something I found online that will help. http://bothellfire.org/TechRescue/Rope/PulleySystems.pdf

    Degree vs. experience and certifications

I just made this move 8 months ago. It took A LOT of change for me to slow down to the city speed. Still adapting matter of fact. I also did contract work for this city and that was a huge bonus. They wanted me but still had to post the position and there were some good candidates that I was...
