Today....

Home from Tx where I whacked those Siberian elms while there for the holidays. 1800mi round trip 3x because FIL passed in October. Good cloud show most of the way. Luckily only sprinkles on our luggage, gifts, and saws…winter is finally here (jacket weather). Reckon I’ll spend tomorrow with the 394 and the maul.

That last meme is too accurate, especially in the humidness of south Florida

Rain in the morning with a little saw maintenance.

Back to a job we were working on for 2 half days before Christmas and a half day before New YearsIta 32"x150' fir near the water started heaving in the wind with saturated ground.

Solo today, first day back. Break in the weather , finally after an inch of rain yesterday.

There's a hedge directly adjacent to the trunk along the property line.

Got three hangers down and about a dozen larger limbs with a couple rigging ropes and double- whip tackle slings.

Hard to see the difference, but it was an hour and a half of climbing/ rigging and hour and a half to clean up.

A half day of good-turned-cool and breezy weather zipping down a dozen or so 25' fir limbs natty crotch and chunking down onto a crashpad...water line somewhere below. Used the mini to build/ be a part of a barricade against bunch pièces, but unneeded. Loaded logs at dusk, locally around 440p.20260107_133307.webp

Left off with 60' or so of trunk. I'll hopefully grab one or 2 new 28" bars and some new chains in the AM and get the rest dropped and loaded tomorrow.

I've been gone for a while, was feeling pretty burned out in December but back in action after a nice few weeks off over the holidays. My one employee leaves in a month, so working on recalibrating.

Had some good rain, finally got my firewood split, floated an alder over a shed, found a classic Homelite in a customers tree, did some lift work and the other day bought a dump trailer like I asked about a while back here. Ended up with a Lamar 6.5'x12', 10k GVW. Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but seems like a well built unit with a lot of good features, was $11,300 all said and done.

I like how casually the Homelite in the tree was included in there.

Glad you got some good rest. Good to see you’re gettin’ after it.

Had some White Mulberry and Eastern Red Cedar milled. I’m like a kid in a candy shop.

Don't recall ever seeing or working with Eastern Red cedar. Does it make good lumber?

And I know all about the kid in the candy shop feeling,. I have been milling for a long time and I still get all giddy and warm and fuzzy inside every time I get into a really nice log..

Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus verginiana) makes decent lumber. Although it does tend to split easily and it’s a little softer than true cedars, I love to make things with it…
