I used my air cannon to shoot a line over a big pine and isolate a nice crotch 89' up. I want to make a climb over 80' on my upcoming 80th birthday. This should work OK. I've already made sure it's climbable all the way up.

Thanks for the happy birthday wishes.

I've had the air cannon for a couple years but haven't used it much because I've gotten so good with the Big Shot for shots up to 75 feet. The air cannon at 45psi will shoot a 12-ounce weight over 100 feet up, but I usually need a bunch of shots to get where I want. I doubt I'll ever need it enough to justify practicing enough to get much better aiming it.

28" bar in 2nd photo. ~15' cliff, couldn't get pictures to capture how backleaning and sketchy. Whip tackle to mini with side stay, needed a tie in on the ground to make the cut.
Twitched up-out the lowest limbs and rigged a few smaller ones to minimize damage to the saplings etc.

Sketchy. Sometimes they drop limbs as soon as things move. I often bore and trigger so I can get away fast. This one the trunk was pretty solid, still had some dead leaves, but the RH limb was crispy dead…and had a hive in it. It was a widowmaker. Bees were piiiiissed. Probably africanized. Somehow I didn’t get stung but the HO and his wife did.

There are a few of those oaks in batches in the summers on my YT channel. One 6’ across but short and wide.

I removed some dead wood from this big codominant pine. It was a nice long climb in the cool morning breeze...didn't even break a sweat. The lady took a picture of me at work.


She also took a picture of this old guy who follows me around. I've no idea who he is.

Great work @Winchman! You should install a cable in that tree for her. It would be an easy tree to cable and it needs one. Also, keep that ground guy around, good help is hard to find haha

Here’s a big dead ash with my MS460-25” bar laying across the narrow part of the stump. I think it’s the biggest ash for me and thankfully clear drop zone.

I had a challenge Friday. It was an 80' tulip poplar leaning over a power drop and near the house. I couldn't pull it backwards because of other trees in the way. I didn't feel comfortable climbing it high enough to rig pieces short enough to clear power cable. After a lot of scratching my head, I was able to install two ropes from the ground - one near the head of the tree and one at the hip (locations marked in the pictures). To reduce unexpected movement I put two opposing ropes near the base. The plan was to cut the base, hanging the tree, use rope puller to pull the base forcing the whole stem to turn 90-degrees so it could be lowered into the driveway beside the house. Everything worked and boy was I relieved.

I removed two dead limbs from this pine, one yesterday and the second this morning.



I secured them with a rope so they would swing away from me when cut, let them hang while I cut pieces off, then lowered the last piece to the ground clear of my rope pile. The second one had a nasty break.

Now the HO can feel comfortable parking his nice new truck under the tree again.
