pre-emptive WTB Buck Throttle

$200, aren't they $500 new.
yea, I thought that might be the first comment. I am not desperate to get one, and I have no issues with not getting one. I suspect that there won't be a hot market for them and I am putting it out there for that person to know that they can dump it in a hurry if the price is right. I will also cover shipping, but I really don't care if this never happens.

It's also a bit of a dig at whoever pays $500 for what as far as I can tell is nothing more than a novelty. I wouldn't even cover return shipping if Buckingham wanted to let me try one to convince me to buy it for full price. I can always tie some knots in $10 worth of cordage, and I could buy enough to last me 20 years for $500. The only people I could see this device being that attractive to are guys with enough money that they buy it just because, or newcomers looking for their first mechanical.

I used to be the first in line to try every new piece of gear out on the market. Now I wait until everyone else tries it, I talk to my friends who get to try early versions of it, and once again wait. It doesn’t take long for the patience to pay off and one pops up on Treebay. Inevitably I bite and buy it. I usually try it a few times and then it sits in a tote with all of its other friends like a character on Toy Story. Just waiting until I put them all back up on Treebay or until one of my employees wants to try it.

The consistency and reliability of a Zigzag is hard to beat IMO. It is like a Toyota Camry of the tree climbing world. It just works. Is it fast? No. Is it sexy? No. It is a Camry. Boring as fuck and reliable as your wife nagging you to do that thing you never do or to stop doing that thing you always do. You want a Porsche? Buy a Lockjack or a Rope Runner. But you know they will get you in trouble or won’t be as reliable as the old Camry. A hitch is better you say? What? A hitch is like an old American beater. It is reliable sometimes. And then it rains or you get a dab of pitch on your rope and everything goes to hell. You can’t go up, you can’t go down, tending slack is a nightmare. You have to tie a different knot because the one you always use in perfect conditions doesn’t work now. No thanks.

I’ll stick to my old boring reliable Zigzag Camry. Unless you have a Throttle for $300. Then I’m your guy.

Agree on all points! I am gonna ha e to borrow this analogy, because it's fucking spot on! I will say that I like having a junkard full of old Fords, Chevys and Dodges. I don't break them out unless it's a nice day, but they have a feel that is inimitable, and sometimes I just like how it feels. And, I got them cheap and built them out myself, so there's something to that.

I do have two Zags and a Zillon for a reason though.

Spot on.
Ryan, I am curious what you would think of an Arbsession CaraLink II tether with an ISC Apex run on a ZigZag for SRT. Seems it would convert over from SRT for ascent to a normal double rope ZZ setup (maybe now with a friction saver installed) for working the tree pretty easily. I haven't tried this yet (am still running my original ZZ from before there was hair) but have thought about another twin attachment point ZZ in my idle time with single malt (still kinda shy away from the Chicane just 'cuz it seems like it all was Kevin's idea was first). Thoughts? New ZZ would be about $500 highly devalued Canadian dollars and I guess that's what is holding me up a bit with experimenting too if I'm honest.
Cheers

I run that setup, but with a zk2, and it's flawless. smoother than the chicane for sure.

Also, I can do that more smoothly with either a hitch climber or ZZ and either work great with a wrench, so if you already have those, it's a novelty. Almost every climber I know has those, and the ones that don't climb a tautline/blakes, and don't want any fancy stuff. If you are new, and buying your first rope, and first device, it might be a reasonable choice, but at that price, I would make other selections, especially when you consider Ryans fantastic analogy.

Using my ZZ on a spar so much, doing crane work, it becomes a second flip line/lanyard .....
Now I want a zillion. I never wanted one before. Wish it was sold separately.
Anyone have one they want to sail? Hit me up......

a few years ago, I bought the zillon lanyard and used it less than a week. Way too sensitive for a lanyard and gives up too many surprise drops. As a primary ddrt device though, it's the best. or srt working down a spar, the best. Most compact mechanical pretty sure. Never bothered by sap and vibes with every rope. Not selling it:)
