another ugly stump

What risk? There wasn't that much weight up top.. that tree is going to the lay 100%

as far as bucket baby, can we define that term?

For almost everything I do, there is no climber in the world that can touch the productivity of that bucket.

This video shows several interesting cuts. First is blowing a big top using a plate cut. This is the fastest easiest cut I know to create height to the hinge fibers. This was a quick clean cut... and yes I know my buddy took a little too much off the rakers.

Second cut is an intentional bypass on the face cut (Gord's magic cut???). There's not a lot of bypass, but enough to show that this isn't a normal face cut. When the piece is short and straight enough, you don't need a hinge for directional control. SO, it's easier to create a little kerf bypass on the floor of the face cut, past the notch, and then match it as closely as possible with the back cut. When the piece starts to sit on the bar as the back cut is nearly finished, it's time to pull the saw, and go up and push the piece by hand.

Then the last 4 cuts are even shorter and are easily accomplished with a slightly angled straight cut, front to back, and use a hand to help slide the piece right down the inclined plane, created by the cut.

The tips on that big ash top hit the fence, but no damage. I was aiming slightly to the left but the favoring protecting the house the fence is obvioulsy falling apart, and will be replaced soon. So there was no risk in this scenario. (just for you Rico)

Also of note is the dust, both from those pieces bombing the ground and the amount of dust coming off those dead ash cuts....

What’s wrong with a (running) bowline? Are you just suggesting a carabiner termination?
Yea, I still tie a running bowline for pieces over about 300#. I do like a carabiner on a spliced eye for all the small stuff, as it is just much faster over the course of 100 little cuts, but I can tie that knot pretty damn fast; nuthin wrong with it.
