barefoot shoes for climbing?

But I was saying folk are trying the wrong boots if their feet are hurting. I have never had problems with boots I climb in. They keep getting better and better. Boots I currently have in rotation. 20241217_212239.jpg

I think it would be impossible to find chainsaw protective shoes that don't hurt my feet, but if you have any suggestions... I'm in need of a new pair. Maybe that's one for a new thread.

There is an surprising amount of people who like/love/wear barefoot shoes in this workfield.

I don't think it's the actual boots doing the hurting, it's the shape and volume of their feet. It's great that you can fit into those narrow European hikers, but for a lot of us they're not an option. Especially when you factor some places require cut protective footwear. That limits options even further.

Tree climbing wears out all the boots I have ever tried in the same ways. Barefoot no more no less than the others. But the best tree climbing boots I have found all wear out from asphalt than from trees. My tangos and arbpros all had a hard time with asphalt and the soft rubber that makes them good on rope and bark. If I would take my boots off when I got out of the trees, they would last a long time. The vivo get worn down especially fast on asphalt because they are comfortable enough that I wear them for other things. They are not advisable for spurs at all, but I think that with a different spur plate design they would be fine.

Because I like boots that actually protect my feet. Plus those boots would get shredded in the rough bark trees I climb. I wear scarpa approach boots mainly and I get a year max with them.
Those boots in the picture don't look particularly protective. They have thicker soles but we are not walking around construction sites with nails and the uppers is just leather. They are not chainsaw or hard toed are they?

interesting. my first pair of vivos are pretty shredded except the sole, the sole would outlast another set of upper parts.

also they (vivo) say that you can replace the laces and insole as the only way to fix them atm. laces are in perfect condition.

but anyway they are the most comfortable shoe i‘ve tried and i just got another pair

I've got two styles of the vivo tracker. One were leather and but the soles were not stitched on. Then I got advice from someone else and got a pair that was almost identical but either a bit more synthetic material in the uppers and the sole is stitched on. Those I have worn out the soles on three of them from walking but they don't get destroyed in the trees. The first pair I had were shredded with six weeks of climbing like a typical Walmart boot. Crap.

Hell no. Just grippy vibram soles. Very grippy. Hard toed also a never. They are hiking boots for pruning. Mountaineering for gaffs.

I dig what you guys are saying. But I grew up barefooted in the Caribbean tropics. Our feet cannot be the same. I walk barefoot all year round except at work. My feet are earthed often. It is good for all round health. But cool that you guys dig the vivos.

How much of an arch support or raised heel (drop) do your shoes have? I found that after going barefoot for a couple of summers I could not stand those features and got rid of all my old shoes. Now I wear shoes with flat soles.
