Deciding between soil injectors?

I’m deciding between soil injectors for the use of plant growth regulators mainly. What deciding factors go into this choice? Would you avoid Rainbow because of some things they did in the past? Or you like some of the other products and research? Or maybe go with Arborjet because of they’re availability from a local vendor? So no shipping costs? However some of their other products you’re not sure about selling to people. Maybe you go with the Njekt? Any help is greatly appreciated!

I was a huge fan of the Kioritz, it's a bummer they stopped making it.
The HTI from rainbow is the best tool out there at the moment IMHO. It's heavy but also durable and very accurate. Can be used attached to a hydraulic sprayer or gas-powered backpack. Looked at the arborjet product and my guys would break that thing after a week of use. Haven't tried the Njekt, but tried a similar designed one a few years ago and it leaked and broke often.

Thanks for replying! I almost deleted this thread. I posted this a while ago and never really updated. I ended up with the HTI. It did cost me more than the Arborjet soil injector. I can’t really speak on which one is better. I’ve found both reps in my area are amazing people. (I own the air knife from Arborjet and like it better than the air spade.) I need to sell more Cambistat though. I haven’t even made enough to pay it off yet. Sometimes I don’t think people see the benefit, or they’re more invested in dumping money into lawn care services, like fertilizing, annual plantings, or whatever else.. I’ll post more on here when I use the HTI more! I am optimistic once I build my business more I can sell this product along with doing other work to benefit trees.

If I wanted a low volume injector, I'd look at the Nu Arbor 1-Two Root Injector:

For higher volume, I really like my Braglia with a flow totalizer so I know with certainty how much is going in each time.

How's the braglia holding up? Anything you don't like or wish it did better?

Pretty happy with the rainbow HTI for dosed treatments that need to be accurate. I have mine with a gas powered maruyama but works good with some electric backpacks depending on soil type; flow zone typhoon is what I have experience with.

It's so expensive! I'm glad it works well. My back is messed up too so carrying things like that is rough. How is rainbows service if you need something? Any problems with the hti?

Rainbows customer service is great for my area. I can’t speak to representatives in other regions but I’ve heard good things.

No problems with the HTI but I haven’t put it through very vigorous testing as it’s a training tool for the most part. But I haven’t heard of many. It’s limited on pressure (150psi max) and can’t run fertilizer through it.

I think I bought it in 2010. They sell a repair kit with seals, springs, etc... for maintenance. I think I bought that in 2017 (order emails from Rittenhouse don't list items ordered, just an order number, so I'm making some assumptions here). It's due for that again ($50) as it drips a little/valve not closing all the way. I'd consider that "scheduled maintenance" kinda like changing oil the car, so not a knock as something I wish it did better.

Otherwise, nothing. It's been bullet proof. I think the only time I've taken it apart to clean it was when I used the repair kit. Of course we flush it well after use as part of the rinse process. Use it with imidacloprid and fertilizers, no problems at all.

The only thing I wish it had is a reset button on the flow totalizer. So if I know I need to treat a tree with a total of 20L, I could reset it to 0, then know I'm done when it gets to 20...like a trip odometer. But its like a regular odometer. I'm sure there's a way to do it, but not easily. I could look at it and tell you how many total liters I have put through it in its life (I'll try to remember to look tomorrow).

Bottom like: nothing that stops me from giving it a full recommendation. Buy one. (I think I also added a quick connect to easily switch from this to spray gun).

Perfect. Exactly what I want. Stellar review.
Have you done any DED treatments with it? Is it precise enough for that sort of thing? Either way I'm stoked for the price and the fact I can rebuild it. I love things that you can keep going and not have to buy a new one all of the time.

It measures to 0.1 L.

DED treatments are trunk injected...so no, not best tool for those.

I know there is some discussion about soil treatments, but the best research I've seen is trunk injection. Would be great if soil treatments work, and I'm interested in anything you have that says they do!

I think I misunderstood some material on it. I've not dealt with DED treatments yet, so there's a high likelihood I was wrong. Lol. Dippy dooo over here.

I’m just gonna throw this out there again. I had the original kioritz but I think I like this injector better.

I use it for ash treatments and other insecticide applications, growth regulator, and fertilizers designed to be applied in concentrate/with minimal water.

What makes it so appealing is that I can mix up exactly what I need for each individual tree unlike when I had my 200 gallon spray rig.

Showing up with a little handheld injector, I can do a pruning job and plant healthcare job at the same time without having to worry about coming back with a spray rig.

What’s the difference between this and a big spray rig? Water. So I just use it when we’ve had adequate rainfall. Or worst case scenario have the client run the sprinkler. The majority of these applications are supposed to be applied during the spring/rainy season anyway, but I know a lot of companies have the sell “deep root fert” year-round profit model.

Lastly, I like not driving around with hundreds of gallons of mixed product.
