Chipper drum failure

The Vermeers

Doo do do do did do did do

CAN'T CHIP THIS.

Thanks for sharing. I hate Vermeer more and more every year. I wonder if their drums are manufactured overseas.

Yes thank you guys, I should have said that first, no one got hurt. I was feeding with the mini no one else was with in 50 yards. That is a chunk of drum that penetrated the chip chute and is stuck up there in the one picture I posted earlier.. It made an awful racket when it happened and the whole machine started shaking violently. There were no noticeable defects in the drum last I checked the blades. Funny enough one of Vermeer's selling points over bandit was their "quality American steel" and the longevity of the machine.

Has Vermeer shown any CSI interest in the failed drum and shrapnel containment damage? It is common to at least ascertain fast or slow crack growth in mechanical failures, root cause etc.
Yes salesman has sent photos and video to head of service I believe. This happened today, waiting to hear how they want to proceed and if they're willing to help a fella out at all

Yikes. Interesting to see the inside of them, guess I've never really thought about what it looks like and how they are built.

My BC1000 apparently had a knife come off while operating at some point before I bought it, or at least that was the dealers assessment when I took it into them. They found the driveshaft was bent, which threw the bearings out, and shook it creating stress fractures in the body. The reason they thought it must have been a knife coming off was there was bulges from the inside going outwards, and of course that resulting damage over time having not been repaired properly whenever that happened. Cost over $7k to repair all that, but honestly other than fixing that (I ran it for a year after buying it without issue, before taking it in and them finding those problems) it has been a great chipper for me. Though now relegated to backup status now that I have a 12XP....

Jeezus! Did you have to go home and change afterwards?
I'll 2nd checking in with landmark on a drum. Looks like a lot more than the drum is going to need attention.
Glad no one was hurt...
