Today....

Got a new toy in the mail yesterday....

Just set it up this evening and put it in a few pieces of wood behind the shop to try out. I've got... 7 climbing saws now so looking forward to getting some time with this one, and it's my first ported saw. I'll share some thoughts after putting it to use on a few jobs.

For the last two years or so I've been using a very good 200T with a muffler mod (huge improvement in acceleration and good improvement in power) as my 'big' climbing saw and it's been great, but I honestly had no idea the latest 201TC is so much lighter. Over a pound reduction is HUGE on a climbing saw, especially for one with MORE power.

interesting, is the older 201 heavier?

I should have weighed it as well but didn't, I don't have 3 identical bar/chain setups for all three saws (I just put in an order for two more 16" bars to fix that...) so I didn't have them all set up the same to weigh, and was too lazy to take them apart and compare just the powerhead weights. But now I'm curious too, so maybe I'll do that.

I have my Husky T540i set up with a 14" bar and the 200X battery, and I just threw that on the scale compared to the new 201TC with a 16" bar and they are basically identical in weight. I'll use them for different purposes, but that surprised me.

Randy Evans is the man. Never owned any saws he ported but I have many ported saws now. They have their place just like battery saws. His port knowledge is huge. Which he shares on his forum OPE....you should join.

A ported 201TC is a very very powerful top handle. I love them. Never used a husky 540 but will not switch as a 201TC meets all my removal needs. Will switch to my MS220TC Stihl battery for pruning.

Had to remove one of the biggest Redwoods in Oroville last week. My buddy got to climb it and I was running the ground. Almost 6' on the stump, but tapered super fast, and was barely 100' tall. It was still green, but almost all the bark around the bottom was coming off, with orange goo coming out of the wounds when the weather was wet. It had been fading out for 4 years at least.

Easily one of the strangest and most fun jobs I’ve done. We are at the Biltmore estate pruning back 100 year old Wisteria vines to 2” and greater. The metal support should probably be condemned which is partly why the haircut is so extreme- the last time they really cut it like this was in 2005, maybe @Tom Dunlap did it? I think my metal arbor tie in point energized me a little? :sorprendido3:
