Milwaukee top handle is coming

Well, I should be getting the Milwaukee battery telescoping polesaw in the mail tomorrow. Got a spare bar and a few chains to go with it, and what the hell, while I was at it, I got their most powerful battery impact gun as well. Should be great for doing chipper knives. I'll share my impressions of the pole saw after some usage.

Climbing Arborist just posted a video on the top handle today, the short version is he says its good for the price but the Husky is his choice over it 100% of the time.

The impact is great! The torque wrench is just a tool to double check now

Have you had the chainsaw tool pop out and fall to the ground yet while climbing or in a bucket? I feel like losing the onboard saw tool in the top handle is a matter of when for everyone lol.
Yes, I did. Impressive vertical bury of the bar into the ground. Glad my grounds woman was not under the lift. I was using the sectional polesaw, not the extending version.

Mine didn’t last long Love the saw but that scrench storage isn’t nearly secure enough. Haven’t bothered replacing it but I did like having it on the saw

If you haven't bought one yet, but are thinking about it you should. Its been great.

But wait....there's more. One of my helpers found this deal (I told him that's not cool - I don't need to be spending more money!):

full kit with 14" saw, charger, 8Amp-hour batter 12Amp-hour batter, plus an extra 8Amp-hour battery for $699 (and a case, which would just take up a lot of trash can/recycle bin space for me...). Never heard of this place, but here it is:
Edit: Looking a little more, that looks like Home Depot has the free battery as well:

Has the mechanism broken in enough for you to be able to spin the chain to sharpen it on the saw yet? If not, whats your method for that saw?

There is no "breaking it in". It's a direct drive, no clutch system. Method to rotate chain to sharpen is as follows...
Step one: take off the diaper.
Step two: with gloves on both hands, grip chain on top and bottom of bar at same time.
Step three: pull with one hand and push with the other simultaneously, this will rotate the chain just fine.

I am having a hard time getting past step one:chica:

Do any of you guys ever run into overheating on the battery? I know if it has the torque that I hear it has, I would be tempted to push into some decent wood pretty regularly if that what's already on my belt when I get there.

I've had the 8 overheat. Not the 12.

The 12 is really heavy, I'd never want to carry that on a climbing saw. I have it for my Milwaukee pole saw and... have mixed feelings about the tool.

I would definitely have to try it before I buy it. I couldn't spend even the best deal price and not have it be something I'm stoked about. At least, not while I have a saw that is lighter and more powerful, and runs almost flawlessly. And is easier to sharpen.

I've been in the Husky battery ecosystem for a long time now. I bought one of the 300 BLI batteries and decided to return it before I'd even taken it out of the shipping box, just based on its weight. Battery tools are great, but I'm not going to have a saw that weighs more than a gas 200/201 with significantly less performance. The 200x battery fills that gap of performance vs weight as well as possible in todays technology.

I only use the 12 in the Milwaukee and don't feel burdened by its weight. But I'm seldom doing a prune job and usually either removing the tree or chasing a couple problem limbs. If you do a lot of pruning...might not be the best choice. It's got the power for the heavier work though.

I use the 8 in their power pole saw, which is an amazing tool.

With all that said, I still haven't seen replacement parts for sale. Like sprockets, oil caps, chain catch, side covers etc. Could be an issue.

I've only run the 8 and they occasionally overheat. I haven't bought a 12 yet because I'm waiting for the new 12ah Forge stacked cell battery to come out (supposed to be cooler running, higher sustained output, faster charging), which I'm guessing will be a sweet option for the saw.

Yea, it sounds annoying, but I have mostly milwaukee battery tools, so this will probably end up being my first battery saw when the time comes.
It's time! That's why I posted the link. On one hand I wish I waited for that deal...but on the other then I'd not have been using it for the last several months and I'm glad I have.
