Yeah, really! Not so cheap! Well, American designed and made and August has taught me much through his videos. It’s easy to appreciate what he’s doing.

I’m kinda thinking that they will be the last set I buy as they should go 20 years as long as my next saddle is compatible. Looking at it in the long run, I’ll be paying 60 cents a month to have reliable suspenders.
I hope so I saw a post on Facebook where the guys mb suspenders were falling apart. I might buy a mb saddle just to try it but it'll be getting those home depot suspenders.

I've got two MB saddles as well as a few other pieces of kit, all have held up extremely well for me at least. I actually have the first gen suspenders, but I almost never use them. Now that I think about it, tomorrows job may be a good use for them...

I cut the sleeves off an old jacket, sewed some webbing into it along the path of suspenders, incorporated a couple snaps; used an old belt along the back for adjusting..
it connects to the TM and has some front pockets where I keep a few things (ascender, small redirect sling). It's also canvas jacket so it's a mild armor against abrasion.

I've been really happy with it. It's mega bulky for sure but has become integrattoed to the whole harness for me. I sewed loops on it clip to for ascending; also have a little whistle hanging from it. inside pocket for a phone or snacks.

Just an old beat up jacket, a few feet of webbing, and some wintertime sewing. The webbing carries the weight and it transfers nicely throughout the shoulders of the jacket.

That doesn't get really hot in the summer time?

Yeah, the original TM buckle can't be tightened when the buckle clasp is closed. It's tough to get the belt fit right when you can't adjust it after closing the buckle. It's about fitting the harness belt snug on your outer hip bones, ass factor doesn't matter if your harness belt tightness is adjusted properly. Hanging a big saw off a harness pretty much sucks no matter what, one of the PNW climbers (Reg? Not sure) made an over-the-shoulder/across the chest sling to clip their big saws into, brilliant.

nah, tis true. but we do get a few days of 90+ degrees and 98% humidity. it can get brutal. If it's that bad I just remove the jacket..
Sounds terrible I can only imagine extreme summer temps like that.
No insulation than I could do that in the winter most of the time I barely even wear a hoodie for more than the first 10 minutes of climbing.

Yea it's a very brief time we get those kinda temps. For me the vest is decent at keeping core warm. I have about 1% body fat so I always need to layer up.

haha, I just noticed that the jacket I'm wearing in my little avatar photo is the jacket I cut up for the suspenders. never put that together (old photo); I'll see if I can get a good photo of the thing in it's current form.

Yea, I figure your winters are way worse than ours, so it seems a fair trade off

well with winters it all depends who you are asking :) my boys love the cold, they just wish it was colder. meanwhile I'm the one heating the house and doing the shoveling!!
lately we havent been getting any snow lasting more than 3 or 4 days so it's been pretty sweet. Chopping maple and it looks like another mild winter ahead.

where is Butte County?

@dspacio I like that idea/concept. Got me thinking…. a lightweight tactical work vest could be sweet in this configuration. The sharing of the load of saddle/tools, the extra pockets, and a little more armor…. Cool idea!!

About 100 miles north of Sacramento, CA. I'm in Oroville, where the CA gold rush started, and the massive dam nearly failed, next to the burned down town of Paradise.

indeed.. the idea came to me one winter's eve and it's been a game changer.. 20201231_204745.jpg

i dont have a great picture right now. this was while it was still under construction. there is more webbing along the shoulders. it makes the harness huge for stowing (double size) but it serves me..
I sewed a "bag" into the back of it that can hold extra rope , then I can deploy a hook or second short system that flakes out of there.

I'll get some better pics here soon.

cool, I love it out on the South Yuba zones; I know the area a little bit. your winters may even be more snowy than out here; I live so coastal that the sea keeps everything pretty temperate.

I also keep a tourniquet in the inside pocket.. ditched the first aid kit off the harness back. for that thing to have function I want it available without fidgeting in the blind.

thrifted jacket: $25 worn out for years; Webbing: $5; embroidery floss: crazy cheap; couple days of fucking around by the fireplace: I do that anyway.
I got the snaps from the marine consignment (maybe $4 each), heftiest piece of hardware is a non-locking perfecto that clips to the rear center of harness.
