Which rope for zigzag?

If I had five, it would perfectly fill all my current desires. I’m know your work gets far more technical, and frankly sounds like tons of fun too. But if I had enough ZZs to keep them permanently installed on each rope, I would be really stoked about it. I would likely run 11.7 & 11.8s. I love how it runs on my voyager. I’m actually looking at possibly buying an 11.5 but I’m pretty happy with the 11s and unless I gain weight enough to see slipping, will enjoy the lower weight
 
Yah, Control at 12.5 and Flow at 11.6.

I've got a 200' Flow I use one one of my ZZ systems that gets very occasional use, just for a few particular DRT situations... It's OK? Bought it for the splice that fits through the ZZ obviously and it certainly does that, and it tends very smoothly, better than the Samson Voyager probably due to its smaller size. That does make it a little more sensitive though, which can be a good or bad thing depending on climbing preferences.

If you try that, I suggest a practice run from a low level until you get the hang of it.

Strangely enough, Petzl is ok with that technique on the Zillon.

I kinda read it like they warn about "jerkiness" if used alone/ singly and they put in a sorta caveat about a Munter and biner (or maybe a ring and biner) below the Zillon when used like singly. Suppose you could use a Shunt above the Zillon too (too clunky?).
From experience in traverses with a Captain/ Zillon setup on Tachyon, when you get towards a shallower rope angle (still below 120 degrees) it can get "jerky" to the point where I've come back on the line slowly, in steps sometimes, with a pulley setup. With smaller rope diameters, this jerkiness or tightness is more exaggerated yet. My two cents for whatever it's worth. Personally I wouldn't rap down on just a Zillon or a ZigZag or a hitch anyway (born under the birthsign of the cringing chicken).
 
I do this above my mechanicals on long descents. It saves a lot of wear on the device.

We do kinda the same with a Petzl Shunt above our ATC’s/ mechanical but for ice/ glop on the rope (wintertime ambles up waterfall ice) I’ve gone to a Munter below on my leg loop. In winter it can be amazing to see your thigh just covered in rime ice the Munter has stripped off a rope, even dry treated ones. The Shunt usually rides on a short length of sling and provides a backup stop if you let go (the whistle test?).

Thinking about your idea. Seems like a lot of wear on the rope however. Weigh the cost of how many ropes you wear out vs how many mechanicals you wear out. One good rope is about the same price as most mechanicals. Are you saving anything or creating more expense. Just food for thought. I know that I go through more than one rope with a Zigzag. Many more. And I can get a Zigzag for under 200 dollars. Like I said, food for thought.

Where are zigzags under $200? I just paid $300 for the one I bought the other day from Bartlett.

I can attest that these are legit. I have bought several of them and each one has gone through Petzl's warranty by serial number. But we all have to do what we believe is best for ourselves.
Just for information, the Zigzag Plus is 234. and change.
I run a swivel DMM Director carabiner on my bridge, so I don't care for them myself, although I did buy one of those as well and it is also legit.

I still need to try a zillion.. love my zigzag I just found a a.r.t non swivel. So I put the petzl swivel on it and I’ve love it size day 1.

I also want to try on of the 1s from Thompsons tree tools that looks like the uni. I’d want the 1 that could be connected back to its self though.
