Today....

To my knowledge, yes. Although I did not read the letter or talk with the city arborist.
I mean, if she’d have consulted with anyone who knows about these things, she would have known this would be the case. Why did she NEED to have this driveway installed like this? If she can show that this driveway was a NEED and not a WANT, then she may have a case to argue that the city should pay for the removal, but in either case, she failed to do her due diligence, and must now suffer the consequences. Did she pull a permit for this driveway project? How did the planning department not raise the issue during the preliminary site inspection?

Out with an injury again, this time my left shoulder instead of my back. Undoubtably from holding and swinging big limbs on that side for.... 13 years. I'm sure it was triggered by the 3-day long emergency job where I worked really hard recently, then after a pretty normal job a few days later it started really hurting and I've been off for about a week since then. Taking a short vacation at this point that will be a second week of rest, hopefully that is enough.

The other day it was feeling better, so I went to fell a big dead grand fir by a cabin. Set a pull-line, chained to a nearby tree since it was a tight drop and the butt was close to the cabin. It went perfectly, but turns out even that 90 minutes of work was too-much, too-soon, and it set me back in my recovery... So I'm at home doing random projects like making a new 15' pruning flip-line and putting some Westcoast Saw dogs on my 2511T...

Do you drink protein shakes? I take one every morning and also one after a hard day, just before bed. I try to sleep 7 to 8 hours. It helps with muscle and tissue repair. Not a magic bullet but I truly believe it makes a difference. I’m sorry to hear about your shoulder.

Big fan of the protein shakes, actually I use a meal replacement shake I get from nutrabio for breakfast. Keeps me fueled until lunch.

Greenbelt hazard tree removals. No cleanup...a dying willow with some questionable stability, but pretty solid... high TIP in a nearby doug-fir.

Wondered about a Flint Locker. This worked a treat, with easy removal from the anchor tree.

All with a 2511t/ 12", less than a tank. 20230828_143031.jpg20230828_143041.jpg20230828_145154.jpg20230828_145609.jpg

Started on a failing Port Orford cedar/ lawson cypress. This row was planted like a hedge, topped once, then left to grow non-hedge-ical. This one is just buckling, not uprooting or cracking. Bad jog at 6-7'. Two high TIP. Crap structure on all of them in the row. More action tomorrow.
The homeowner has been watching it slowly pitching over for a chunk of time, calling this morning. I got some support on it, and some branch weight off. Drop zone isn’t great.

Well by this point I thought I'd have my real shop built and be using it, but developing my property has been going very, very slowly.

Still, I want to utilize the property more and be able to do my basic end of the day cleaning, maintenance and saw sharpening there, so I bought this old jobsite trailer off craigslist the other day and have been having fun working on it. I gutted the interior which was pretty janky and am painting, then will build in a workbench, saw sharpening station and storage shelves. Nothing fancy, but will be a big help to have the work space on my other property, even if it is small.

Thanks, I considered a shipping container as well which are all the rage these days, but they are just dark, dank metal boxes. To make them into decent space, you end up having to cut holes, framing in windows and doors, interior paneling, electrical, etc. and it would be a bigger and more expensive project than I wanted for what is supposed to be a somewhat short-term solution. And I can also easily move this myself, which you certainly can't do with a shipping container.
