Today....

Some incredible flowers from this afternoon's job. Afterwards I went to the grocery store and saw a guy die in the parking lot from an apparent heart attack, weird day. I'm always worried about dying at work, which is valid, but I bet this fella had no idea when he woke up this morning that he'd die in the whole foods parking lot this afternoon.

Today was my first easy day back to work in three weeks resting my shoulder, seems fine so far. Easy driveway clearance and chipping job. I also auditioned a new employee who kind of showed up out of nowhere wanting to work with me, and it seems like it will be a good part-time fit. He has ground experience, wants to learn to climb and has a collection of brand new and surprisinly nice pieces of gear.

Also got the new 'Husqvarna Leaf Blaster 350iB' today, with the battery and charger. It was only $300 for the whole package and came with the BLi30 (7.7ah) battery, which sells for $275 alone....? Not complaining, just very unexpected. I'll put it through it's paces over the next few weeks, but much to my surprise it actually does blow significantly harder than my BG86 gas blower which is Stihls most powerful handheld.

Glad you’re back at it! Ease in and take care of that shoulder.

An acute impact about a decade ago killed so many trees that I think it was financially out of reach initially. We’re still reeling from the impact in my area. EAB just arrived and now BLD. Heads gonna explode.
Impact of what a decade ago? Wait for Spotted Lantern Fly too. Fortunately my area does not have EAB, or BLD, but we do have Ambrosia Beetles and they are a problem. They will hit just about anything.

I also started the process of repainting my homemade service body recently, a fresh coat of white in the main compartment sure makes it look like some weird sci-fi void.

(it's been 5 years since building it and its only paint job, chipped into this box for a few years. The white color makes it lighter inside and easier to see and grab items)

Winter Moth pressure compounded over 3-5 years followed by a Gypsy Moth bloom, followed by drought. Ouch.

Don’t even know what to say about the pest issues. IMO, spray is not the answer to the blanket problem. It’s all a symptom of nature’s imbalance at present.

I got asked to look at a Tulip Poplar for removal today. This tree was already in a tight spot, but the homeowner had the roots ground out to the flair of the tree to make way for a driveway.

She's pretty mad now that the city arborist delivered a certified letter declaring the tree unsafe and that it has to be removed. Screenshot_20230824_183531_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20230824_183523_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20230824_183535_Gallery.jpg

She's not upset about the removal, just that she has to pay for it.

Serves her right.

Just to be clear, was it declared unsafe because of the root damage?
