I got a request to remove a hanging dead limb from someone further away than I prefer to travel, but they mentioned the limb being over the shady place their little girl liked to play. I just couldn't say no.

As usual I put a throwline in the tree close to the limb to see if it was attached firmly enough to climb near it. With the slightest jostle the limb slipped free, and broke into several pieces as it fell from fifty feet up.

I was a bit disappointed about not getting to climb, but it was a quick cleanup with smiles all around. Well worth driving the few extra miles, too.

Big ole grand fir, lost it's tops a few times, regrew over the rot, leaning (mildly) towards a building and then roots were cut for a septic. Had to go. Speedlined towards the chipper, sent 4 tops, dropped wood out for a bit. Then on the ground, hit a piece of metal like 8" inside the tree as we faced the stick... old fence staple I think, great. Gotta go back later this week and hope I don't trash another chain finishing it up. Sore from a big day, but at least the views were good.

Amazing! Is that near Anacortes? Looks familiar to me ( family up there ). But there are so many great views in WA it could be one of thousands! Headed up to Anacortes in two weeks can't wait!

Yep that's the area, out in the San Juan Islands specifically, the ferry from Anacortes is how we get to and from the mainland. Great weather this time of year, enjoy the trip!

I feel your pain with the metal. Just a couple days ago I couldn't win for losing. Hit metal 3 times…once on the Sycamore Maple stump cut in the morning and twice in a senescing Japanese Maple in the afternoon. I was on my last leg with the big saw.

Here’s what I hit in the Sycamore. It was a 5 stemmed stump sprout that each became a good 18” to 20”. People must have been using it as a dumpster until the stems closed in on each other…think it was the screwdrivers that did me in.

I like the wedge blocks to stop the roll. Nice, @Neill .

Having milled a good deal of wood at this point, grafts and interesting shaped in trees usually have me thinking about how to capture things that trees have sealed away. Only if the tree were to be taken down for some reason, of course. :)

These are from a few weeks ago, tallest pine/tree I've climbed for a full removal didn't measure but were guessing 140ft+ I took about a 60 foot top and my 170/175 foot climb line was 5 or 6 ft short of the ground doubled up when I came down. Tons of branches killed my 540ixp battery not to long and these pictures were taken and we did the first 45ish ft from the lift and I put in a new battery when I started climbing.

Went back to the grand fir stick today, tried to make another cut above the other metal that was hit, and hit a second piece of metal within seconds of starting work... then tried to see if I could make a cut at all with that chain, and, nope. Ended up taking out the 661 with a 36" and cutting above my head in hopes I'd get above any old fence staples and that finally worked, even if it wasn't as pretty as I'd like. Now to decide if I want to spend all the time to fix two terrible chains on the grinder, or just toss them.

A real chipper-show yesterday and today, taking down ~15 alders, winching them uphill and chipping as much as possible. Was supposed to be a one day job but my ground guy is having back problems, so it was two days solo walking up and down that slope covered in stinging nettles that weren't there when I bid the job :p

The chipper did a hell of a job dragging all that material around and chipping big tops and logs whole. Wouldn't have even considered the project without having it.
