Gotta love Lancaster county.I saw half a dozen or so of those today, all freshly “pruned” .for the Spring!
Yup. And unfortunately the guys who do that work largely wear straw hats and drive horses and buggies around, and work for half of what we do. Makes for a challenge to compete, for sure.Gotta love Lancaster county.
Is this serious? They are not coming back to take the rest of it down?
I’m sure they are leaving it, that’s done to trees around here every day. I have two in my back yard that were “topped off” because “they were getting too tall” and now that I own the house I’m stuck with the aftermath. Is this serious? They are not coming back to take the rest of it down?
I had two of those in the first house I owned. I knew it wasn't a long-term home, so I enjoyed the shade and tolerated the trees. If we were there for a long time I'd have replaced them.I’m sure they are leaving it, that’s done to trees around here every day. Just plain crazy.View attachment 86581
Classy pine prune
It would make a dandy practice climbing tree for a beginner. Line setting; rigging; limb walking; ... Heck, testing new gear.View attachment 86581

Are there regulations/restrictions?The kind of hackery shown in some of these photos basically never happens around here, I wonder why that is? I can't recall ever seeing stuff this bad but it seems like it's happening most other people's areas. Anyone else live somewhere free of this nonsense?
Yes, there are local city license requirements but people do skirt that pretty often. I've never known of anyone to get in trouble for it.Are there regulations/restrictions?
Do tree service companies have to have any kind of specific to tree care registration or state/local licensing?
I think this might be the case here but I'm not sure if anyone around here would do this kind of extreme topping and lion tailing like some of these photos show. There's definitely a lot of educated people here in general and the general population has a lot of master gardeners and amateur botanists/tree scientists lol. It can actually be kind of a problem of its own. Some places there are enough educated consumers that the hacks cannot find work.
Maybe this has something to do with it. We haven't even had trees for very long so maybe it's all modern tree folks, relatively speaking. Its also easier for the hack to pass his hackery business onto the next generation and people know the name so they keep hiring
Ouch, but that certainly looks recoverable with proper care..
