Wrench looking kinda device, the Apex.

I follow Arbsession on Facebook, he posted this, he’s on a mission to seek out ISC booth at the Expo and see what this is all about. Curiouser and curiouser. Also a new Squirrel flex tether. The tether looks nice. No idea about the other gadget. I rather like the simplicity of the ZK2 with the Slic pin.

Looks to be something more going on then the Wrench.

Can someone get their hands on one and test it? Changing the angle of the two bollards would seem to me to be practically limited and affect the upwards free movement wrench angle. More angle equals more "sitback" for stroke in the engagement of the wench. I figured Kevin had the sweet spot. Homage to Jaime's pin cam bollard adjustment.

Come to think of it, is this just a modified top half of an Akimbo?

i assume they don't pay kevin any money for this thing, so they might make more money just making the new gadget.
Man, that would get me to write them a letter informing them that I will be avoiding their company. Kevin's wrench is one of the greatest devices devised. I'd they stop making it, I would be interested to see if someone else would start making them and hooking up Kevin with some royalties; just sell it under some other nearly identical name.

To paraphrase Denny Moorehouse: Who do we send the royalty check for the first carabiner to?

Jason Blake thought he could put some sort of copyright on the eponymous hitch and get a royalty every time it was taught/used.

R&D is generally accepted to translate to: Ripoff and Design not Research and Development.

Morgan Thompson got his idea for the Unicender from the rack which has been in use for a long time in other rope access professions. Does he owe a royalty to someone too?

Take a close look at the US patent for the ring/ring false crotch.

Innovation is a flowing continuum. There is rarely a wholly new idea brought to mind.

A case might be made that the origins of the 'hitch/friction devices' have a rooted connection to Franz Bachmann's contribution...from many decades ago.

I talked to a young lady at the isc booth at expo and offered to beta test it for them. I don't think the eccentric cam will hold up.

We have one that we brought home from TCI Expo. Going to climb on it tomorrow. We will follow up with initial thoughts!

Regarding the akimbo, not sure if anyone saw it at the Expo but it looks like the next version only only will have one adjustable bollard, pretty interesting.

Looks like they had to go to some lengths to make it midline attachable. No slic pin (makes the ZK-2 midline attachable) so... a lot of design went into making midline access through a sideplate. When I look at the effective simplicity of the ZK-2, not too interested in what looks like a fairly expensive update compared to something that works very well.

My oops on the Akimbo analogy, cam and roller positions are reversed.

MapleLeafRopes, could you measure the tether length from center of pin on the wrench to center of the lower eyes?

If you get the chance, see what the hand force to release is like , bigger or smaller, when you dial up min and max frictions but also using a big sloppy sitback VT hitch and/vs a tight little hitch like a compact hitch-hiker hitch or some such. I believe this could illustrate who sets first, hitch or the wrench and thus affects the loading distribution/lockup. On one of the devices I made the hitch tuning totally determined the overall performance.

I think I'm going to innovate up a new bollard for my old ZK1 copy and up the amount of eccentric camming from its current level. Maybe I'll get off my duff and actually do some testing.

Thanks in advance:)
