Food Thread

Please accept my apology if this has been covered at one time in the 80 pages of this thread. I drop in once in a while and leave hungry and in awe of the cookery going on.

Does anyone cook meals or holiday fair to a literary theme?

There are companion books to go along with book series. The companion book to Patrick O'Brian's 'Master and Commander' is titled "Lobscouse & Spotted Dog". When I go to the used book store I always thumb through a copy. There have been 'lissuns'...a mashup of 'list servers' and 'bosuns'...that have had M&C themed parties. I'd go the easy route and bring rum or wine.

Simple Beef Stew

Dinner this evening (and probably all week) is a simple beef stew, simple largely because my refrigerator and freezer are looking a little bare today…

Seared beef cubes in bacon grease, then simmered on the stove with beef bouillon, salt, pepper, parsley, and rosemary for three hours.

Chopped up a few potatoes and carrots, and added in half a bag of frozen corn. Usually I add peas and an onion, but I didn’t have any.

Let that simmer another hour, the thickened with flour and let it cool.

Came out pretty good, even without the peas and onion.
