Looking at a 2012 90xp with a Perkins with 925 hours . I spun the disc around it seemed smooth but it almost stoped but went backwards and stopped could it be out of balance ? Any more info would be appreciated

Disc will often do that if there's any debris in the disc cover. Was it 100% clean when you spun it? A single chip can ride around in the bottom then get pinched against the housing and stop the disc

If that's the case I wouldn't be concerned as long as everything else checked out.

I found a jammed chunk that gave me a challenge. In order to get it out I used the long drill bits from cabling to 'Swiss Cheese' the jammed chunk. then long pry bars to dig it out

Another time I couldn't get a chunk to shatter and come out. I welded a twist drill to a piece of tubing to make a long bit that was sized to match a pilot hole for a ⅜" lag bolt. Then I welded a lag to another tube to make a 'cork screw' sorta thing. The screw was threaded down into the stuck chunk then wiggled and pounded. It came out but didn't give up easy

Also depending where on the rotation and how many ‘fan’ blades there are on the back of the disk it can spin freely and then rotate slightly backwards

But of course, the dreaded disk chipper jammm A lamm!! Heyooo! New member been climbing and chewing trees for 20yrs.
My dude, I’ve had more issues with disk chippers than you can shake a stick at. These fellas are totally on point with the old single wood chip jam issues.
just wanted to add being selective about the amount of rotten wood getting stuffed thru that thing. On multiple occasions, I’ve told my ground guys “don’t chip them logs” only to look down and see them gone, chipper shut down and the disk jammed. What caused it were the fine smooshy particulates/ degraded to dirt basically all on the underside of where the disk rotates through. It took a bobcat and four hours to free up (almost had to remove the entire disk) leave it to a groundie to exhibit their exceptional listening skills. The kicker was he went home while WE fixed his mistake. What took the genius two minutes to chip cost us a half day on site It’s a simple concept no dirt rocks rope or metal thru the chipper…….the wood chip jam, oh my is that heavenly compared to jarring the disk back and forth chained to a bobcat thru blade mount (after blade was removed)with a shop vac and a flathead screw driver I used to HATE brush bandits that is until I met mr. brush bandit with a drum. Call me scarred. Mortified, tell me I got baggage, and ill tell you that’s the darn truth. Big fan of vertical feed roller drum chippers. I’d. Rather have a log crank my legs or knees versus losing teeth on horizontal anyday. Best luck and keep the rot out the disks!!
