Gear bags and more gear bags

What gear bags are you guys running as your primary gear bag and why is that the bag for you? I feel like i keep finding the perfect gear bag just to eventually have to buy a different one because it seems more perfect... at the moment i am using a notch pro and it holds almost exactly everything i want in my climb bag except my captain hook does not fit because its maxed clear out.

Mossad Tactical Duffel Bag

I've had this bag for almost 9 years. Fits a saddle, throw cube, 200' of rope, handsaw, ascenders helmet. Everything but the saw basically. iI and the shoulder straps for packing everything to the tree

I am not easy on gear, highly recommend. Simple and rugged. Bottom waterproof panel tore off a few years ago, but the bags still going strong.

I have three gear bags, 4 rope bags, and haul it all with a mini...

I’ve switched to heavy duty totes these days to fit everything into my Kia Soul somewhat organized. A 12 gal tote Holds my saddle, 15” blade handsaw, all climbing trinkets, multiscenders, ascent system, and two throwline cubes. Each rope has a bag. Rigging, liquids, extra saddles, and tag lines are in totes. They run about 8-10 bucks each. One day I might switch back to bags, but most storage spaces are rectangular, so totes tend to fit whether in my car or a client’s truck. They’re also easy to direct people to if something is needed.

I give mad respect to any tac bag for i have alot of them and used to pack my gear around in one for around a year but i hike sometimes mountains here in WV to get to the trees im working so my biggest complaint with at least the tac bags i have was after packed with 40+lbs of gear i always felt like i could here the stitching screaming for help. The notch pro has some serious connections from the backpack straps to the bag that so far seem more stout than other bags. Also as a person that lives a life of climbing and shooting some awsome weapon platforms my tac bags have found other uses ;)

Totes are something ive thaught about because you could not get more organized than using seprate stackable totes but where i live and do most of the time you cant drive to the tree :/ its usually a hike away on sketchy terrain. Totes would be good for my tree shed though.

Yeah, that’s my biggest beef right now, though I have an old tac backpack I use to hike things in when called for. It’s seen years of abuse and is still in service. This week it carried my 462, 200, spurs, and other gear through the woods. Forty bucks well spent in 2015. Just wish it carried more.

Thats awsome because in my eyes anything made of soft material such as boots, bags, clothes, ect. Needs to at least last 1 year for me to feel that it was worth the money and any amount of time after that year is bragging rights for that item and builds a strong case for a re-buy of that same product.

Since 2005 I’ve been using the same US Air Force flight kit bags. They’re big and very durable. Just one big pocket, so small gear goes in some little drawstring mesh bags to keep shit organized and protects stuff from getting scratched up.
I got one for climbing gear and one for rigging gear and a few ropes. Inexpensive and crazy durable. The only complaint is sometimes can fit more stuff inside than one can comfortably carry. I almost always have that one do-dad I didn’t think I needed for a particular job.

Highly recommend.

I have a 50L arbortech bag, and its pretty good but I have some complaints. I can comfortably fit a 150ft rope, a 200ft rope, my harness, lanyard, base anchor, hand saw, throw line, and other jangly bits perfectly. It stands erect so it works quite well as a rope bag, and is surprisingly good at keeping stuff dry.

what I wish it did better, though, is mostly organization. There are three exterior pockets of different kinds but they are each a bit imperfect: one velcro topped pouch, and mesh pouch with a open top, and a zipper pocket that zips along three sides. the mesh and velcro pockets allow things to spill out when tipped over, and the mesh pocket is kind of flimsy and is starting to fall apart. the zipper pocket, when fully unzipped, allows the entire contents of the pocket to spill. I also wish there was a dedicated sheath for a handsaw similar to ice axe sleeves on some mountaineering bags.

I like the Weaver Cavern bag, for all my climbing gear, less rope. Those live in Gap Arborist rope bags.

This is the Courant Cross Pro XL, I love it so far. Missing a couple of things in there right now, a sirius, and a handled ascender and my foot ascender. All of those still fit in the mesh sides. The main compartment can still fit a 60m 10.5mm rope, or my helmet, or my Sequoia. Without the spurs I could get my 150' Drenaline in there, but I prefer it in a ropebag, which will be the Courant Cross Rope at some point in the future, that thing is awesome, my boss has one.

Fits spurs, 150' of rope, saddle, helmet, handsaw, throw cube, SRT kit, plus a small pouch full of goodies (extra biners, hitch cords, friction saver, pulleys, etc.)

The lack of an internal frame makes the backpack option less than ideal, but it will do for shorter treks.

Buckingham RopePro deluxe. Check it out. Bag is the shit. 150’ of blue moon, handsaw, lanyards, saddle w/suspenders, helmet, two ditty bags, my canopy access SRT tools, and all the hardware I need for a work climb. You could feasibly strap a top handle saw to the top of it too, to free up a hand to carry a rig kit bag with you. It’s pretty simple, but very effective. Robust build, with a very fair price. Climbing arborist does a YouTube review of his I think. (If you care to see it tin action) I think I paid 110$ for it, and buckingham even credited me some cash back because the shipping got delayed a few days.

55l arbortec bag. Fits it all except gaffs and throwlines. Love it. Owned many others. But this meets my needs. Personal item like boots and helmet....metolius bags for a lot of ropes. Notch bags ard great too. But too big for me. Owned 2. Tuefelbergers rope buckets are good too, but not my style. Owned 3 sizes.

My gear "bag" is 6 of these totes behind the seat in the truck. At the job I pull one out, throw it in my wagon, fill it with whatever special gear I need for the job, and go. Easy to hose out and never suck moisture in via the bottoms when working in muck https://amzn.to/3q1Ic7R
