What's in a name?

Tom Dunlap

Nomenative determinism?
Implicit egotism?

Why did Bob Root start grinding stumps?

C. Ashe become a plant pathologist?

L. Treful become a city forester?

True...I know all three

Makes me wonder?
Dunl(o)ap=fortress in the bend of a river
Frank=baptized middle name...St Francis of Assissi as my Patron Saint
I think I'm grabbing at strings. Lol

Wait...what about @moss ?!

Any other related or determined names that you know?

My surname translates as Goose Meadow. I have a relative in Germany that has done an exhaustive geneology tracing the name back into the 1600's. He has also dis overed the family crest which has 3 geese on it.

I knew of a proctologist named Dr. Rectanus. I'm knot kidding! In elementary school we had two singing teachers (do elementary schools have singing teachers anymore?), one was named Mrs. Loudon, the other Miss Bellows! I kid you knot!

My tree handle is "Moss" because when I first became interested in climbing I signed on to the TCI (Peter Jenkins) rec forum, I needed a user name. I decided on"moss" because at the time I was still earth-bound and to me moss represented what's on the ground under trees in the forest. After I gained some climbing skills I found out moss is all over the crowns of older trees so the name sticks.

Lately I've been called "Dr. Moss", "Sir Moss-a-lot" and others that can't be mentioned.

There is a dentist in a nearby town whose name is Dr. Dickey. I'm sorry, but I'm not letting anyone named "Dickey" put anything in my mouth. Another dentist there is Dr. Harms. Also doesn't seem like a good idea, to me. I drive 30 miles to see one with a name that doesn't scare me. I had an orthopedic surgeon, once, whose name was Steiner. I used to send my payments to his office addressed to Frank N. Steiner even though his name wasn't Frank. He still managed to cash the checks.

I got my wisdom teeth pulled by a dentist named Jolly Johnson, no shit. Don't worry, I was awake the whole time.

Dr. Steiner works in our town now. Small world

The best I can come up with is my relation to McIntosh/MacIntosh. Direct line to the McIntosh apple from Canada.

You're saying that like it's insignificant?! That's huge!l
Not really fond of the apples though... I do find it somewhat ironic. They do have a cool history, and also follow other family lines related to the Hudsons bay Co, and establishing FT Victoria. Some of the oldest McIntosh apples are in the Fort Vancouver grounds. When the norther boarder with was negotiated HBC "moved" F. Vancouver and established F. Victoria (which established the town). I grew up in Vancouver, was conceived in the Olympics, and now raising my family on a Island between the two. All odd relations to an apple...

Also drop down to page 10 or 11.. interesting info. Now I'm not 100% sure that tree is a McIntosh, but odd to think a ancestor possibly ate it's fruit, and perhaps another cultivated the variety
