I mentioned earlier, a literal interpretation of teaching parables is ridiculous.

Noah collected two of every organism and fit them on a boat. That would be one hell of a boat...

Does this include the animals in the Americas and Australia as well? All of Asia, Africa, and Europe too?

It is interesting that many cultures do mention a great flood as well as recording the Christmas star (may have been a super nova or another cosmic event).

I’ve read the doctor bronners bottle start to finish more times that I care to admit. Mostly the morning after splitting a 5th of jack grabbing wads of tp every so often.

On the contrary JD there is only one true path, JESUS . HE is the truth and the light! I challenge you to read the book of John. It's in a a big book called the bible;). Pick it up sometime! Nothing is impossible with God!
 
Yeah, Jason... if he wants to appear to you on a slice of toast or inside of a potato, looking for all the world like a caucasion from Europe... who are you to judge?
And when you're done reading a couple of those big, fat bibles... I've got a copy of the Bhagavad Gita you need to read. In the original Sanskrit.
 
I have read multiple holy texts and will continue to do so.

What I won't do is commit billions of people to supposed eternal hell fire and brimstone in the name of them not finding the New Testament to be the path to salvation.

I prefer the path to enlightenment. Try reading up on subatomic particles or Buddhism. You'll see there's far more to this world than what you think.

Or...start collecting two of every animal, wearing only clothing if the same cloth, not suffering a witch to live, parting large salt water bodies of water...

So do you. I was ten when I got my hands on some Stephen Hawkings and I haven't turned back since. I've also read the Bible, the Koran, and the Torah. Three texts amongst a myriad of the world's religions claiming the supreme authority. The problem with the bible is that it is not even considered historically accurate by the mainstream historians. The events ie the Gospels outlining the lifetime of Christ were first transcribed 75 years after his death. We are about that far separated from World War 2 right now. Books on the war occurred during the war and thousands of volumes since then. Slightly suspicious that it took 75 years to get the "miracle" in print? If it was such a transformative experience and middle eastern culture at the time was fairly literate for the age not to mention the Roman historical record. At best it is a moralistic mythology. The teachings attributed to Christ are solid foundations for Western society but their divine inspiration can be traced to the evolution of religion. A people of the desert would look to the sky would they not? Have you ever spent any time in the open desert? Its humbling and makes you feel insignificant beneath its vast grandeur. On the other hand, the Germanic peoples developed gods of the forest and the earth. All told there are thousands of religions in the world. The Abrahamic religious root groups account for the majority of the followers due to a long history of violence and subjugation. We live in a new world where we have the ability to move beyond the concepts of our ancestors. We can measure and quantify with a quantitave data like no people before us. It is time to put religious text on the shelf with other mythologies and move forward.
 
There have been a lot of good comments and discussion about why people find religion to be ridiculous. I believe the Bible is hard to wrap your mind around because of the seemingly contradictory statesments and stories. The Bible is deeply woven with correspondences. What these stories explain to us how to live a good life...on a natural level yes but more so on a spiritual level. For one thing the early stories in the Bible are representions of things in our life, not truly historical events. Adam and Eve, the flood, etc. Think of the flood as a flood of falsities and each number and measurement and timeframe all are very specificly chosen to explain the concept on a spiritual level. If you were to actually construct the ark it would be a giant box that wouldn’t be particularly sea worthy. Can we fully understand these things? You can see clearly in the parables and other places where the Lord is explaining things not from the literal sense, but something deeper.
 
I like to think most folks would stop to help but there are folks who want to see the world rot. If the Bible helps millions to billions, great.
