Show off them splices

Make your eyes a tad looser when having them tested. If the shackle has to be screwed i to the eye, it can cut fibres on the way through.

Thanks chizmin for posting results and graph. Looks like something settled, or slightly slipped around 83 seconds.

You showed your's , I'll show mine.

This is 1/2 inch stable braid bought from Sherrill's about 8-9 years age. Treestuff thought it was 5/8, as that is their color for the 5/8".

I did a different splice than the regular double braid

It has the same bury lengths, but I did a locked brummel with the two tails and then inserted them into the core and cover. The drawing isn't to scale.

Yea I was really confused about the blip at 83seconds so I emailed the operator and they said it is from having to adjust the breaking length during the test and that it didn't affect the outcome.

Also what possessed you to do that splice of yours, just curiosity? What's the MBS of 5/8" stable braid

5/8 is 16,300 lbs, my was 1/2", which is 10,400. After studying the regular splice for a while trying to figure out what was going on and what the originator of the splice had in mind, I tried to find something that was easier.

If anyone has or follows people on Instagram - look up hispanicarboristassociation He has some pretty good vids and ideas on splicing:

I just checked out his instagram. Anyone know what this tech cordage is? If I'm not mistaken he has pictures of it spliced with a traditional double braid splice, as well as spliced as a core dependent brummel splice. I've never seen this cordage before.

Looks like it broke at the end of one of the cover tail ends.

The top eye looks like it came close to pulling out. The bottom eye had the tapering started inside the locked brummel, as I didn't think it would bury back inside, but it easily did. The top one had the taper start after the brummel.
This is the core, the tip and outside are melted, as are the tips of the core strands.
