TreeStuff and SherrillTree Join Forces

It will be a truly sad day when Wesspur buckles under the same pressure and then we will be left with one corporation owning all three. I'm not a fan of corporate mergers. Especially this one. I am disappointed but not especially surprised that this is happening. Wesspur is going to have a tough road ahead with the buying power of Sherrill and Treestuff combined to compete against. Interesting times for sure.

I remember when Luke tweeted he was no longer the one packing the "stuff." I was sad and worried like many of you are about this. Since then, the company has only gotten better. Now, with this more recent, similar business move, I had the same initial reaction, but really hope and believe it will turn out for the better, with similar results as when he hired that first employee. Worst case, Luke and Erin get what they deserve, more time doing what matters in life, and I pay a relatively small bit more

with the dramatic drop in the value of the UK pound ordering from there is now feasible for me .
my last treestuff dealing has been a cockup from the get go
last thing I ordered was from wesspur.
shop around treekit or honey brothers are offering overseas customers some great discounts,
maybe even to Barbados ..
:)

My take on this is that there will be little change. They were competitive before and they will be competitive after. If prices go up you elsewhere. These two aren't the only players in this tree equipment biz.
I do hope that the innovation will continue. If not, it will move to the private innovator sector. Like Kevin b. in his tinker shop.

If I had the offer to sell my company for a good profit and spend more time with my family and kids (when they haven't grown up yet) I would. I don't know much about running a retail shop on that scale but I would imagine I takes a lot of time and pressure.

Congratulations to Luke and Erin on their success.

To everyone who is upset by this, I think they are forgetting that this is what makes the U.S. and Canada great. A small business being built from the ground up and finding success to the point where they are able to sell for the betterment of their family is a good thing!

To everyone who is saying they are going to boycott TS now because of Sherrill owning it, remember that you are boycotting the same TS team that has provided you with great equipment and customer service. Treestuff has given me the best customer service of any retailer and I will not abandon them simply because they changed owners. It would be different if Sherrill bought them and decided to fire everybody and absorb TS, but that hasn't happened.

Imagine your favourite truck company was purchased by a competitor you didn't like but still employed the same people and provided the same product and service. Would you take the food off those employees' tables just because you didn't like that company 'X' now owned them?

As long as the same great people are working at TS they will have my loyalty. It isn't right, IMO, to punish the employees of a company by taking your business elsewhere just because of a change in ownership. If the customer service tanks and the prices go up then people will find another retailer and so will I. Unless that happens, I will continue to do business with TS and support the awesome team they have working there and so should you.

From my experience Sherrill is very bad for innovators and TreeStuff has always been very good. Expect to see less homegrown products as the corporation continues to suck more money.
That all depends on the time frame your looking at. When Sherrill was young it was very good for innovation.

Nowadays look at treestuff and the x rings, where treestuff came out with their own rings....and x rings ended up being supported by Sherrill.

Good comment

I can only say that I believe that SherrillTree is actually committed to fixing all of their customer service issues. They have treated me with the same kind of "we'll make this right" attitude that TreeStuff has always shown. Even a corporation will see the writing on the wall, as long as they employ people who can see the fundemental logic of treating the customer right every time. Yeah, that dips into that month's profit margin a bit, sometimes. But over the long haul, I think it's fairly certain that 99% of folks would rather do business with people that treat them like a friend, not some MBA dickhead that treats them like just another idiot with cash in his pocket. Some day, perhaps we'll all start voting in a way that brings this very basic understanding of what makes a good business model back to the forefront, instead of fostering a culture of "if it makes a buck, it's good; if it makes two bucks, it's better" where the consumer becomes a cash mule with no input on product quality, pricing, availability or the buying experience.

Right now, this industry isn't a big enough slice of the corporate retail pie that the suppliers can afford to ignore what the customer wants. We can keep it that way by keeping them informed of what our needs and expectations are before they turn into the monster that industries like Big Pharma and Wally World Retail have become.

I'm more than willing to give the new business arrangement a chance, and plenty of time to sort things out and get it right. It won't be perfect off the bat, but face it, the customers aren't always a joy to deal with, either.

Besides, I always have that option of turning on them like a rabid dog and biting their balls off if all they do is talk the talk and don't walk the walk, right?

I wish the Treestuff family the very best during the transition. Thanks for taking care of my tree needs for the last 6 yrs or so. You guys really did create something special. I still check the website almost daily to see if any new gear came in. I have a Vermeer dealer within 20 min of my front door but I remained a loyal customer throughout this time, even paying the extra shipping, duty and taxes because I valued TS as a vendor and respected what they did for the community. I'm extremely disappointed and shocked by this move. Go home SherrillTree, you're drunk.

After the "why" and perhaps the feeling of betrayal (edit, and perhaps we have asked too much from Luke and company) ultimately is for market control.

Of course! The same people are running things!

Luke, Erin and I aren't marketing geniuses or evil masterminds, we are just people that do the right thing. SherrillTree isn't going to change that, they are embracing it!

Twenty bucks says you're not a part of the team in a year.

Yep, why else?
I guess, all of the reasons listed above.

Bottom line, I'd say those that have been fighting so hard for us, the consumer, just got a little run down and basically are saying, we must give up some control, (fighting for lower prices, customer care, free stuff, activities, competitions, Jambo, etc.....we know the list goes on).
