Zip Line White Fir

Sorry Adrian for posting this right after your speed line video. In all fairness, I did mention that I was producing some videos... Specifically, a zip line video.

Anyhow, this is some video taken from a 1st person view point.

Make observations and make comments. They are welcome.

Oh. The music is great too!

Zip Line White Fir

Looked text book to me.
I noticed the speedline was pretensioned before the cuts were made. I also remember reading that it is a good idea to drop the peices on a slack zipline, then tension it before sending the load down.
I geuss this is only for realy big peices or if the tie in points are weak? Please splain Lucy.
Cool vid bro.

Nice video Jamin!

I did notice dropping some pieces into the zipline also. I know we did some of that and Mike and I were wondering what kind of tension and pressure this puts on the speedline and the anchor point.

Great topic for discussion.

I'll site the Art & Science of Practical Rigging on this one:

"If the rigging point is above the work and the pieces are not large, shock-loading will be minimal, and the pieces can be attached to the speedline before cutting. The speedline should be thensioned after the pieces are cut, however. A low-stretch rope for the speedline helps maintain tension as the wood is lowered along the speed line." (P.107)

I would say that none of those loads were over 300lbs.

i think your weights were fine.

on the other hand, look at this guy:

I think it looks like a Tulip Tree too! Looks like it was heavy and moved the tree too much too me. He's lucky he didn't snap out the top.

I think there are going to be deaths resulting from climbers speedlining because not knowing everything that they should be doing.

speedlining because it looks cool and not understanding the tremendous force the speedline can put on the anchor points is going to equal some dead climbers and groundmen.

wow! i wondered if the bucket could take it, honestly, i was kinda thinking it might turn the truck over. never seen something like that.

i've jump out of one into my pond, but it was set at maybe 25 or 30 feet. free jump into the water. but i wouldn't try what that guy did.
