Here is how we prefer to deal with backleaners.

The wires with the green flagging are stabilizing a 27,000 lb. transplant by a patio

What were those guy lines going to and how were they set on the anchor trees? The one set on the lawn looked like a temporary set up?

[/ QUOTE ]

They were anchored to nearby trees, ground anchors and anything else they could find with cable clamps and garden hose.

Yes, they were temporary. When the contractor used a 300ton crane to place the tree they were predicting high winds and thunderstorm that night.

Mostly just in the way.

Looks like it would have been an easy notch and drop if the cables weren't in your way.. How many man hours? Why was it easier to run a sppeline, vs. just lowering the pieces where they were and moving them out from the under the cables? Seems like getting them on the ground first would have been fastest, but no doubt you had your reasons.. Were you trying to preserve the lawn?

Any idea how much it costs to move a tree with a 300 ton crane????? That is definitely NOT "regular tree work"

I worked on some transplants that cost up around 100,000k.
There is a small one in the pic.

There was no room for a drop. Water garden, plantings, perennials. It was a no impact job. Just sawdust left behind.

The speedline took about as much time to rig as any other system and saved some struggling. Plus I had not run one in a while. Gotta goof off now and then.

I have no idea what it cost to plant that tree. It's gotta be 18-20 DBH!

I get a pic in a few days when we're back for another removal.

Here is a quick picture i had taken with my phone. Shows the transplanted tree.

Tony - Smooth video. I've never used a speedline before, so just asking out of ignorance here...

Looks like you used a block to run the pieces down the speedline?

Did I see that correctly?

What are the advantages of using a block instead of a pulley in this application?

Cheers.

opposablethumb,

You did indeed see it correctly.

No real advantage. The client wanted it done RIGHT NOW. I had to run with what was on the truck.

Typically I use a Large Rescue Pulley and a custom made carriage and some endless loops.

On occasion I have been know to just hook a forked stick on a tightened line!

Recently I used the bucket boom and landed it square in the chipper!

Just ask Derrick,
