yesterday's big elm

Re: yesterday\'s big elm

You nailed it with this video.

Best one yet. Glad to see you have begun putting your winter weight back on. I was getting worried about you wasting away to nothing.

Also boring

yeah boring vid Dan,

Re bucket - for stuff like that get into the habit of making the back cut leaving a small hinge then move yourself away from the stem, then get the groundie to pull the piece out. This way
everything is more controlled and safer.

There wasn't any reason for you to be chasing the backcut whilst leaning out of the bucket in that stupid fashion.

Gaps in your knowledge yet again.

Re: yesterday\'s big elm

Wondering why (but don't want your answer) you left the giant horn on the yard side. I would have removed it before the butt notch & drop.

The only Gap here is between your ears, if you think I haven't done that 1000 x. Those cuts were well coordinated with the operator..

Actually this was a sleeper vid... It includes a blatant error which was left purposely just to see if anyone would catch it.. You missed it, which was expected..

Re: yesterday\'s big elm

Oh I think you misunderestimate us (to use the Bushism) Daniel. I certainly noticed when you cut the corner off your hinge with that bore cut. Wasn't gonna say anything about it, but since you brought it up is that the reason why there was no shot of the stump?

Re: yesterday\'s big elm

I found the flaw, it was you, you were in it. Same problem with all of your videos.

(i guessed that, because I haven't watched this one)

Re: yesterday\'s big elm

Good eye Will,
The rest of you (that watched the video) and missed that, either weren't paying attention or don't know what you were looking at, or both..

I was quite surprised to see that 75% of the hinge had been accidentally cut through by the tip of that 3' bar, as I swung the body of the saw around when turning from the plunge to a forward cut.. The entire tension side of the hinge, except one little post, was GONE!!! And that big heavy tree had significant side lean.. It's amazing that the tree went to the lay!

As far as I can remember, that's the first time I've made a back cut like that, swinging the body of the saw around without leaving the cut.. If the hinge is longer than the bar, I usually plunge in from both sides and leave a backstrap... I was avoiding making a second plunge cut (with that big bar), and got quite careless in doing so.. It took just seconds to blow that hinge out..

Seems like it was a fairly easy mistake to make, and THANK GOD it was elm, or it would not have been free!!!! It was a valuable lesson.

This is because you were unprepared to make that cut, you lacked the necessary experience and knowledge to perform the cut accurately. Its now apparent for everyone that the gaps in your arboricultural experience are as wide as the Grand Canyon.

Seriously Dan, you need to find some proper treeworkers to teach you the basics of general treework.

For someone to be in treework for so long and still be hanging half way out the bucket to make a basic backcut is very poor.

You need to work on work positioning. Start to concentrate on finding the most appropriate position for the cut you are about to perform. This is the most basic element of our job be it climbing, in a bucket or working a saw on the ground.

Re: yesterday\'s big elm

hey this is a great conversation. I am finding some funny quotes. heres a couple I got from skimming this thread

"The only Gap here is between your ears, if you think I haven't done that 1000 x. Those cuts were well coordinated with the operator.."

then from the same person:

"I was quite surprised to see that 75% of the hinge had been accidentally cut through by the tip of that 3' bar... that's the first time I've made a back cut like that"

And the whole "It includes a blatant error which was left purposely just to see if anyone would catch it.. You missed it, which was expected.. " just made me laugh!

Daniel, I think Mr. Nosak is looking for another employee ever since that skid steer incident...

Re: yesterday\'s big elm

Wait a minute..... Dont you plunge cut with your secret snap jump crap, whatever you call it cut?? So if this took just seconds to happen, why can't it happen up in the tree? WHEN this happens to you, you will be screwed! Are you gonna repel down underneath a poor cut so you can still rip the top out with a truck? I saw you blow through the hinge too, and really didn't want to hear any excuses, I guess you didn't say it was planned and owned up to a mistake!

Re: yesterday\'s big elm

You poor, poor people just don't understand. Uncle Daniel is operating in a zone reserved for the top percentile of slam-dunk Tiger Woodie Jordan-freaks. Lay off. The man is a genie in a bottle phenom chubba. He'll smoke your skillz, just ask him. You are all either looking up at him or incapable of even understanding what the man does. End of conversation. Hi-Ya!

Re: yesterday\'s big elm

Regardless of the arboricultural skills displayed(or lack thereof) I must say that the artistic quality of Daniels videos is lacking. Poor editing, camera work and complete lack of story line. Why would you want me to watch this? Thats why i will reply with a resounding BORING to every video post. You should spend more time with your train set then video camera.

good day to you sir.

And you wonder why I am always requesting that we go out on an exploratory date. Your views on subjects such as film are why I am crushing on you so freaking hard right now.

I'm certain Daniel has put me on ignore, I can never let go of the gutter or Feng Shiu bullcrap. But I think deep down he probably wants to make sweet love to me with a stepped back cut, doggy style.

But you're right, besides the faces of death aspect of his videos, pretty much like watching paint dry.
