Yale Scandere

Hey, @joezilla11; Good to read you again! Sorry about the timing on your purchase. It's possible we're related.

On the other hand, at 40% off it won't hurt too much to go ahead and buy another one, just to have it as a backup.

for me, the Rope Wrench is the easier to use tool, especially when making micro adjustments (like letting out just an inch of slack so you can reach something). all around user friendly, easy up & down, ready to go on any rope.
the effortless slack tending (or even self tending), ability to make bigger swings, and being able to fully collapse the device to pull against a flat rope angle with it fairleaded over branches with the weight of +100' rope hanging down the Rope Runner is why i like it in the bigger trees.
Rope Runner has a rep of being hard to engage, especially before it's been broken in. I always found it way easier on static rope but still requiring the right adjustment and hand position. With Scandere it was like butter. maybe i just got lucky but i'd say it's worth a try. too bad we all can't just go demo it at local shops or "rent a rope"
& no need to apologize for anything, only stupid question is the one you don't ask, we're all resources of experience for each other to learn from (y)
Was just thinking how amazing it would be if there was a shop/place you could go that had all the gear and saddles available on the market, to try on and use climbing around in the trees, maybe a multipurpose facility that could also be a sort of climbing school, at least I think it would be cool and I also just really want to find a saddle the that feels great I’m a really small guy and been having a hard time finding a good fit on the fence about investing in a monkey beaver with the suspenders but wish I could try one out, oddly the most comfortable one I’ve ever used with my body was an old basic leather saddle.

Not to derail this thread too much, it sounds like we are different body types but for me the MB has been great. I do not run the suspenders and have seen no reason to. It holds a 661 with 36" bar with no problems and I'll even sometimes forget that it's there. Being smaller, you might find a need for suspenders for bigger saws, but either way I'm sure you'll like that harness.

Also, I emailed August when I was on the fence, and he was accepting returns on saddles as long as they showed no wear or tear. Just hang in it in your shop until you know if you like it or not, then take it out on a climb if you do.

Thanks for the feedback I’ve heard only good things about the MB and yeah just like you said the only reason I thought of the suspenders is when I get to climbing with a 661 or like I don’t have enough meat on my bones that it starts to become uncomfortable after too long and I enjoy using it otherwise. My bad on derailing I originally found this thread because a shop local to me has the 11.5 purple scandere.

No worries, this thread has been vacant long enough that I doubt you'll have any complaints.

Good luck with your search on the rope and saddle.

Thanks appreciate it, and thanks for the heads up about the try-on ability from August on the MB, right now it looks like it’s between the Scandere and the new Phantom to add to the collection lol

Hello fellow small person. For 28” waist 135lb climber my favorite saddle thus far is courant koala. I have had the tree Austria 3.2 with tree Austria suspenders and I’m happy I ditched the bulk. I thought the suspenders were my jam, but nah. If the saddle is properly adjusted I don’t worry about having a heavy saw blocks and rings hanging on me. Stay away from stein Vega. Small bodies are also jazzed on the Edelrig Treerex and of course the perennial favorite Treemotion needs no advocacy. Ive worked in 6 different harnesses and the koala is a sweet spot for me. Lmk how you like the MB or whatever you go for.
