XL Port-A-Wrap or Stein RC1000

I know the Port-A-Wrap has been around a long time and more people are used to it, but the Stein looks like a newer, more improved device.

What do you use and what would you buy now ? IOW, is it worth the extra $50 for the added functionality.

We use both, an aluminum Port-A-Wrap and a RC-2ooo. They are both very good tools. The Porty gets used on small to medium sized jobs and the Stein on medium to large stuff.

Which one will work best for you will depend on the type of work you most often do. Speed and maneuverability goes to the Porty which lends itself well to changing setups.

The RC-2000 really shines on the big stuff and longer sets. To me it is more of a cross between a Porty and a strap-on bollard. It handles big wood and weight smoothly but is still easy to set up and small enough to stow in the tool box.

Yep, Dave is right on.

Marden, having two attachment points on the Stein seems to make it more user friendly than a porty.

I've been very happy using the RC2000 for years as our main lowering device and would highly recommend it.

I started out with the rc1000. Liked it but the barrel is pretty narrow. 2-3/8'' vs 3'' on the rc2000.
I use 9/16 rigging line and on the rc1000 it is the max rope size and feels pretty grabby. The rope runs better on the rc2000.
I would go straight to the rc2000, my 1000 is just gathering dust.

More Cash I know, but a better tool.

All sound advice. My gut feeling tells me the Steins are designed better and would be the superior choice. Not quite ready to shell out the money and will think it over, but most likely leaning to go for a Stein.

Any reason why I shouldn't just bite the bullet and use the RC2000 on everything ? Or will I curse that it weighs so much to lug around ???
