Combined, NDAA and SOPA simply destroy American democracy. That isn't hype. That isn't exaggeration. Within a few days, your freedom of speech will be gone -- post something controversial online, and the government can legally "disappear" it.
Annoy the government too much, or criticize Congress' infinite wisdom and mercy, and you may find yourself in military prison for the remainder of your life, without access to a trial or attorney. Even if you're an American citizen on US soil.
This is a brave new world. Watch what you say. Be mindful of who you associate with. You may criticize your government within the privacy of your own home, amongst close family or friends, but do not post negative comments online. Do not assemble. Do not protest. Do not agitate. Do not give "comfort" to the "enemy."

I've been reading more about this lately ...

scary....

reminds me of the book 1984....

Is there any chance this gets stopped before we lose our freeness

This seems like a continuation of the trend in America that started with the fears of 'terrorism'.

I distinctly remember listening to this speech, then reaching over and turning off the radio. It was THE turning point in American history for me.

Openness and trust and growth and change has what has made America great...IMO. Not paranoia and control.

Its scary what this country has come too, but its not like we didn't see it coming. Basic human ego and greed is what drives it. America never was truly democratic.

I've said it before Adrian, you are a wise young man.

I know man, twas kinda the point I was trying to get across. I just find it amusing how so many people think we are though.

I do as well. Could be worse, we could be Greece!

yep. we are studying those acts and the growth of executive power in my AP US Government class right now.

If you guys have an hour with nothing better to do, I would recommend this video we watched in class on monday. It goes over the Bush/Cheney administration's 'secret memorandums' allowing the president to do nearly anything he wants to until the "war on terrorism" is over (indefinitely). and they did all of this secretly, no votes, no approval from anybody but the president. But please dont get so worked up over it that you guys die of a heart attack or something.

What do you expect from a pig but a grunt?

There was never even any congressional hearings about the misinformation leading up to the Iraq 2 war.. No accountability, and they are just keep taking whatever they can.. Buch and Cheyney should at minimum be tried for crimes against humanity.. torture.. And treason for leading this country into a war based on fabrications..

Kissinger is still walking around a free man.. He won't travel outside the country though..

You can take this modern era of treason and crimes back to the JFK assassination and know that there are still people walking free that were conspirators there too..

The more they get away with, the bolder they become.. and the media is int he hands of the elites.. its not socialism .. its fascism a comin'

I would like to add to this conversation, if Tom D could move it to the tree free zone please.

That adds zero to the convo.

I guess you have a problem with me boston bull, we'll talk next time we see each other.

I wanted to add; that the people in governement don't care about anything except themselves and their friends.

unfortunately, i think this current government needs to fail and start over from the beginning.

We need people in office that care more about the country, then themselves and their friends.

Our founding fathers said we have a right to bear arms for a reason; that is, if government gets to out of control, the people have the power to make the correction and establish a governemnt that is for the people. If the people have no power, the government will rule and it will become communist.

I wanted this in the tree free zone, because I now fear the government.
