wrecked by Geckos

To whom it may concern: OP follow-up on my issue with the Gecko Euro-spurs. While I'm not yet in love with them, the hip joint pain issue appears to have been operator error, specifically my using a more upright posture the norm while using my Buckinghams. While this will be obvious to experienced Gecko owners, the Euro spur has a more open angle from the shank, which changes the relationship to load from the spur to stirrup and especially to the pad, which has been designed for sideloading as much as vertical loading. The key appears to be relaxing the ankles and letting them roll outward, which sounds bad, but changes the pitch angle of the spurs, and more importantly, the angle of pressure on the pads. In addition, the pads will stop this roll so the ankles don't overload either. Another benefit of this slight adjustment is your boot can contact the tree more easily, which gives a bigger contact footprint and arguably, better feel. While I did buy some Cadillac pads for my Klein spurs as backup, I have yet to use them. Part of this is having avoided super-long days thus far, but the car comparison may well hold: Big and spongy (and clanky) vs. sports car tight with the pain of stiff suspension if you don't drive it right. thanks for all the comments.
