So the blue Akimbo has been out almost a year now maybe? Has any of them started to show signs of wear to the point of haveing to replace or rebuild?

Akimbo- $350 for this thoroughbred unicorn and it lasts a year?
HH2- $160 for this ugly old plow mule and it should be good for a decade or 2.
Man, my second rope wrench and third slic pin are about ready to be finished. I'm still rocking the original ABR tether, though. It's made from the same materials as all the other devices... why would you even think it would wear out any faster? The worse wear I ever saw on a multicender was a Unicender... but it just starts slipping and you can buy the parts for it. The ART SpiderJack 2 that I had ate clutches fairly quickly. Both of those work a little differently than the Akimbo, BDB, and RR. ZigZag lasts for years. Rope Wrench and HitchHiker don't have all those moving parts, would expect them to last for years and years. Might have to replace a slic pin or a bone or something.
All these tools are great, they're all made well by people who aren't stupid. Buy them all. Sleep with them under your pillow, and sic the dog on anyone who looks a little twitchy when they gaze upon your bling. Don't worry. Be happy.
And yet I still love my rr . I can’t Quite get the hitchhiker to work for me the way I want but I’m sure a lot of that is me not taking the time make it work for me. I might have spoiled myself with rr. But was wondering about the longevity of the akimbo before I spend money on that unicorn. And then yet for some reason I have an Desire to get a Uni to play with lol.
Mine’s easier to open now too, I almost sent it back when it was brand new, it was getting stuck closed, had to work it open and closed for a day or so before it became easy every time, my daughter called it my fidget spinner.Granted I don’t climb as much as many here, it’s holding up great. Maybe just a wee bit of wear.
Easier to open but I could just have built muscle memory on opening it up
Jamie do you have any of those prototype left? I like the tending point better on those first one than the RE version.I’ve not yet heard of anyone wearing out the RE Akimbos yet. Of the gofundme Version, I shipped out 65 of them and I’ve rebuilt less than 10 so far. That doesn’t necessarily mean there aren’t more out there that are ready to retire, but no one has contacted me about them if they are. A couple of those that I did rebuild were beat on pretty damn hard, even the stainless upper bollard was worn significantly.
