Hemlock like to grow in stumps and logs.

I had to hit within 45* to avoid the fence. That was a quick and dirty double-cut with a 28".


That butt log stalled in the stump, held by almost nothing. Very balanced in the hinge, slow to tip.

If a tight lay, I'd have cut head-high, from a springboard, or from hooks.




The homeowner told her dad, 85 y.o., that she wouldn't let him do it. He's long past climbing.

I tried the Sugoi on the harness leg strap will be going back on the leg. Hip sucks, leg pad bit better, leg is the best, Notch talon falls apart junk

Highway 50 in Strawberry. It was a caltrans job and they decided to leave it at about 60’. They were trying to appease the sentimental property owners and still mitigate the threat. Tree is over 8’ dbh with a big cat face. I was just the hired gun and not involved in the decision making process. Traffic was unpleasant, stressed me out as the tree was full of dead limbs hanging in the branches, sheets of bark ready to peel out, I just held very still when traffic was moving and shut them down whenever I had to move or cut.

Working busy roads sucks. My least favorite part of the work.
