Woodsman Brush Chipper

Yeah, I think I have decided to wait until I can get a bandit 1590, or even the 1390 which looks to be about a 15". I put new knives on my 200 today and got a new shoot to be able to chip into the bigger chip truck and it's working pretty good. I would rather wait and buy the right chipper once. Than the wrong chipper once and then the right chipper.

I spent almost a year before I found our current chipper. Could not touch them under $30k with 3-4 thousand hours. Finally found ex municipal unit with 1200hrs for $19k. Little paint and minor electrical work, ready to go!

You might want to act quick and see if there are any tier 3 motors out there on a new one Royce. The tier 4 adds a lot of money.

Tier 4 adds a lot of crap that will wear in time and mine is less efficient. I can't figure out why lower emission engines burn more fuel. Isn't there more emission when you burn more fuel?
Two chippers is priceless. Downtime kills production.

Don't waste money on the 1390 we have one at work. Its brand new runs great but being used to the 1590 I own I get so frustrated at the size of pieces it wont take. If you can swing a 2005 or newer 1890xp with a winch you will never look back. Use the 200 for a trade in. The woodsman seems like he is trying to unload it for some reason. Ours kept having keyway failure issues on the drum and winch would free wheel at the worst possible time.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I think there is something wrong with the woodsman and he just wants out. How much does the 1890 weigh. I need to stay under 10K and want something that can be towed easy. I am kinda thinking of keeping my 200 for a pruning, or small removal machine.

We have a tier 3 1390 xp with about 40 hours on it and the 97 HP Perkins, and everyone LOVES it. It is a legit 15" machine. We have an older 120 HP Cummins Morbark model 13 machine (that we have owned since new), and the Bandit makes it look silly, even compared to when it was new. Bandit chips faster, chips smoother, throws farther and uses less fuel. In my opinion, (granted, after 40 hours!) unless you're doing constant crane removals, the 1390 is a superb machine. Realistically, it will easily chip ANYTHING one or even two men can drag to it. Seriously- do you want your guys dragging pieces that are more than 15" in diameter? That's big, even for a mini to be feeding. We have no problem calling brush that's more than 15" in diameter "logs".

AA is correct: the tier 4 will add huge cost and complexity, and very likely just plain suck ass. I think an honest/knowledgable salesman would tell you you're better off buying the GM gas engine than a tier 4 diesel. Bandit rep told us the gas engine (4.3 liter I think) should be a true 3000 hour engine. That's probably speculation on their part, but I have a 4.3 in an old GMC Sonoma and it is absolutely rock solid at 215,000 miles.

Take this for what it's worth... I have never run a 1590. No doubt it's awesome. But it's also a lot heavier, uses more fuel, and ain't cheap.

my 1590 is gvw at 10k..... I think bandit offers a 10k single axle on their 1890 as well. You could go up to 14k on trailer weight as long as truck is 12,000 gvw or under and still be under CDL. But you will need a medical card either way. Class A CDL needs to be over 26,000 combined weight with the trailer being over 10,000 gvw. You could have a 60,000 gvw log truck towing a 10,000 gvw chipper and only need a Class B, but you could have a 15,000 pound pick up towing a 12,000 pound trailer and need a Class A cdl.

The reason we got the 1890 with the way it is set up it weighs under 10k..

.I thought we were going to use our smaller chipper, just sits there...

1890 brute is the under 10k version...they will let you know up front that you can't go ape $*&t with options though... our newer 1590 weighs in at 9980 pounds without a winch.

I'll never understand why Bandit and Morbark mess with their model numbers. A 1590 with 18" capacity, 140 hp and weighing 9900 lbs is really a 1890. Why the hell do they do that? I'll never understand this and it's a pet peeve of mine. There is something inherently dishonest about it. I suppose it started when they made the Bandit 150 and 200 which are pretty much the same machine. They could have just done a 200 and 200xp.
Anyway I do have a couple 1890's (the real ones) for sale. They are under 10,000 lbs.

Ha. So true. Ive got a 1290H. Same drum as a 1590 and 1890. Different sized infeed.

Will totally kill a 15" log.

There are deals, just wait. I found mine in nebraska, 200 hrs, perfect. Added factory winch ourselves and i have a new/ older machine for under 25k.

hey royce, keep your smaller machine for a back up. storm hits you can send out two crews. when you expand and you get another truck you'll already have another chipper to go with that truck. also if u have a couple friends or people that use chippers rent your smaller one out. i have a morbark 200 that is totally redone and upgraded nice by me, and i would never get rid of it. company i worked for i couldn't believe the electronic problems all the newer bandits had all the computer boards i had to replace, remember this the down time will always hurt more then dealing with a smaller chipper.
