Wire Mesh Safety Glasses/Goggles

[ QUOTE ]
The thing I hate the most with safety glasses is that ear muffs cannot protect your ears properly with them because they cannot seal around your ear properly. Lately, I have been doubling up with plugs and muffs.

My wife works in hearing research and noted to me that plugs alone lack in total ear protection because we absorb a lot of sound through the solid areas surrounding the ear opening (behind the ears, etc.). Therefore, muffs really should be emphasized more as essential.

It follows that we need good, non-fogging goggles to go with these muffs. I use the wire mesh bugz and am very happy with them (the solid bugs fog up and glasses tend to get cause more fine particulates to get in my eyes.

If you don't wear eye protection, you might get an eye injury.
If you don't wear a hard hat, you might get hit in the head.
If you don't wear hearing protection, however, you will lose your hearing.

MB, that is a nice looking helmet and I luv the pic!

Is that the Petzl Vertex, did you order the earmuffs and faceshield together without that snap on brim piece?

I have a Petzl Vertex, but I don't like the way it sits high on my head.

I haven't noticed the "high on my head" thing. I bought the muffs/visor with the helmet from Wesspur for 130 bones.

I have a Petzl Vertex and i agree that it sits very high on my head. I worked for my first boss this winter and he had just got a couple Petzl Vertex, the ones he got were slightly newer. Those seem to sit lower.

What i'm trying to say if you buy a newer Petzl Vertex, they seem like they worked on that problem a little bit.

I swear by the Petzl Vertex with the Mesh visors.

The mesh visor is a great thing. I have the vertex/visor/peltor muffs combo myself.

That being said, the mesh visor is only considered "secondary eye protection". Primary eye protection is still required (ANSI Z89.1 safety glasses).
Good summary here.

Another draw back with glasses is that you get stuff in your eyes all the time. But, I will admit this. They will protect your eyes from larger pieces. I was using my pole pruner the other day. I was cutting about 8' above my head. Well, the butt of the branch came down fast and right onto my left eye. If I didn't have on glasses, I would have been impaled with a 1.5" diameter branch.

I want to give goggles a try once again, but I don't know which would be best.

Jamin,
Check out the Allsafe Envision @ SafetyGlassesusa.com
They have an adjustable ratchet temple that fit on the upper end of the muffs. I have a pair and I love them!

Wait a minute... After further review, I think I'm going to change over to the Drew Carry look.
