will a chainsaw cut through a steel core lanyard?

Did explosives storage in the military. Follow safety rules to get the job done and survive. The mentality of a newbie is one of excitement not focused on safety. I joined this forum to learn. Pour it on but please don't discourage. Drove big trucks for seven years from Seattle to southern Cal, Miami to RI. Been down Dallas Pike on 2 inches of ice. One person told me to hire a Professional. A pro is just a used newbie. If you were born with a chain saw in your hand your mom hates you. We would still be living in trees if we always depended on some one else to do it for us. Fight or Flight? FIGHT !

Have you always been a professional? How did you learn? Was there a first tree for you. Explosives storage is the same thing.
No I was not always a professional, no one was.

but I was smart enough to know my very first tree I sure as hell wasnt taking a saw with me. Climbing a vine covered tree with a saw? Fugetaboutit.

Cutting a tree with any vines should be the absolute last thing you should consider as a brand new climber. You have no idea how dangerous they are. I just finished a big project felling big ailanthus and black locusts covered in vines from one or two to is there even a tree in there. Those are not trees for amateurs, let alone a first tree. You have no idea how that tree is going to react to a cut. I honestly thought you were trolling at first.

you are extremely lucky and should not return to that tree. Explosive training has zero cross over with tree work.

Leave the saw on the ground and climb for a bit to learn the basics and find a mentor. No one wants to see your name in the obituaries. This isn’t discouragement, this is the way it’s supposed to be done safely.

The tree is not vine covered. There was one. Tried to send pic. No reason to go up without a saw except to anchor ascension or pull rope. Explosives has the same unforgiving safety aspect. WP capsules for conventional napalm no room for error. Persons who buy airline tickets are taking the same chance. So did Kobe Bryant. If I were without a respect for safety I would already be gone. In 1955 there were no seat belts in cars and they still don't have them in school buses. Everyone's life is glorious. Thanks for the advice. Climbing for a bit stay low and communication with others is how I translate that. I will be prudent and frugal but the saw goes with me.

You have the right attitude. Do not overlook the need for accuracy in cutting, not only for your benefit but also for the trees.
