Wildfires

How are are the impacts of the fires being felt? We're shut down today. Not worth it to try and drag brush in a mask.

Anyone here affected in those areas? I know the MN side of boundary waters is being evacuated. I know lots of folks having to get parents/elderly folks.

Stay safe.

We had a big fire close to town last week, crazy to see so close. I just ordered and received two Indian SmokeChaser pumps to have with the trucks, in addition to more traditional fire extinguishers. AQI is kinda crappy here, but not nearly as bad as some places. It's a tinderbox everywhere in the west, it seems.

Here in Detroit is some of the worst air quality. It's been smoky/hazy here since late afternoon yesterday and smells like a campfire. We also called off. This smoke plus the heat is just not worth pushing through.
The local news claims Detroit has the worst air quality in the world today. It was bad but we turned and burned and was off by 11:00 and it was only 79 degrees a lot better than yesterday’s 97 degrees or whatever.
The first picture was from yesterday when we ended our day super hot but no smoke the rest are from today huge difference.

It looks about like that around here today. I've been moving pretty slow and spending all day trying to catch my breath, my lungs don't quite work like they used to after a round of really bad pneumonia the other year. We quit a little early today, but not all that early. We are so buried in storm damage right now we can't afford the time off.

It has been looking foggy here it is so smoky. We had a bunch of bad days last year, but I don't know if we had any as bad as it is today. With our humidity and the 98° heat, it's pretty awful.

Go home, gah that sounds miserable. Tough SOB.

I can finally not get chunks in my mouth. It's felt like sand. Lol. They're saying it'll clear up soon if we get rain. Much cooler today as well.

It was miserable! I'm really hoping tomorrow is less smoky. Yesterday was 97 and humid, but no smoke, which is bad enough. If it wasn't that our customers need us so much right now, we wouldn't be out in it all day.

Our area was hit so hard by a pair of back to back thunderstorms about two weeks ago, our backlog tripled in three days, we've done more in gross sales the last two weeks than we have done in any month the last year, and the calls are still coming in faster than we can deal with them. Right now we are working regardless of weather, as long as there isn't lightning.

It was very foggy all day and a weak, but constant smoke smell. Saw a few deer out in the middle of the day...I wondered if this has thrown them off? Not unusual to see deer...just in neighborhoods the middle of the day.

I was going to do a shortened day anyhow because yesterday was pretty brutal (probably an hour or two longer than intended in the high 90s heat).

Zoomed out on the air quality index on Accuweather:

@VenasNursery ... you might actually have the worst air quality in the world today!

On that Thursday smoke map the big purple blob is what I was talking about Wednesday blotting out the sun all day. Thursday we were only 9 or 10/10 crappy air, not 10+. Today the wind shifted the smoke plume a couple hundred km to the west so we have some blue sky and 2/10 air today, but it's supposed to blow back in this evening.

Some republican senators sent a complaint letter that Canada wasn't looking after the forest. Carney replied it was climate change - hot and dry and the U.S. could do something about it. The forest that's burning is basicly not timber logged it's just natural. Time to break out the rakes, clean up the forest floor - then dump it in a lake to compost? I think the natural forest floor compost cycle is getting baked to a standstill and voila dry fuel buildup.

Mother nature read their letter and changed the climate to some rainfall. Squeaky wheel gets the grease! :)

Trump wants to put tarriffs on the smoke from the hot-climate-dryness induced forest fires to get cleaner air for the U.S. cities - isn't that concept called a carbon tax? At least he's latched onto the cleaner air part.

I jest yet it's eery that it seems like I'm not jesting.

Still moderate to occasional bad air here. My eyes were burning today.

My friend evacuated his in laws from up at the boundary waters in northern MN. The father in law was chewing him out because he's asked to get firebreaks and mulching done for years (friend owns mulching company). Jeremy had to explain that the land there is very remote, rugged, rocky, cliff tangled, scabbed, and inconducive to firefighting/break making.

Apparently, from ivory towers it's difficult to understand the plight of the plebs.

The smoke broke yesterday, at least less hazy. Still "unhealthy" for the most part.
