I live about 2 hours from Zoar valley, and I've been trying to talk some friends into going and climbing a couple of trees there. They say there is a tulip poplar there that is the tallest tree on the east cost.

c'mon now . The Philadelphia area is loaded with tall , fat sticks . don't get too excited. Poplars over a hundred are all over the place.

Nice pics. those are tall trees anyway you look at it for those species.Kind of skinny though. Must be shaded out?.Now if that Sycamore was four, five foot in dia , it would be definatly a stick.Tiss some heavy wood that sycamore.

Ever get a chance to visit Bidwell PArk in Chico Cali., it is full of large sycamore and some of the largest Valley Oaks (Querus Labata) in the state.

LAst year for the WCISA comp. the masters was held in a Valley Oak using only one spar which peaked out at a little over a hundred feet and it wasn't even the central leed. With three stations, 30 min. were alotted for this climb, and only a quater of the tree was utilized.Definatly a biggin. you could climb for hours in this tree.

Ok Mark , this is the best I could do . These pics dont really show the magnitude of thier actual size, but if you look at the lower surroundings you may get an idea.
This is #1 find the blue spot on the lower spar and follow it up.It's height is a little over a hundred where a bell was set.

Distance shot of full tree. The larger spar you see towards the top heading to the left is the same one in the first pic. deceiving how much angle there really was to this tree.
