Who uses Ice for split-tails - how do you like it?

[ QUOTE ]
Let us not forget as we discuss temperatures that if the hitch is getting hot enough to melt polyester, our ropes are polyester and they're getting hot too.

Probably not so much of a problem when you're moving, but what happens when that hitch is near the melting point of polyester and you stop?

Yep, it's a problem with metal descenders like an eight too. Once you stop, get it the hell off the rope.

[ QUOTE ]

A buddy has glazed several ropes. That's an indication that not only is the friction device, be it mechanical or 'software', getting hot, but it's transferring the heat to the rope while it is in motion.

Rope glazing is more likely to occur at the TIP unless you use a pulley. I've seen the smoke from someone else's rope burning bark as it zipped through a natural crotch.

As a side note, I also saw my lanyard burn clean through when I failed to keep it separate from a lowering line when we were running big pieces to the ground.

I climb on ice with my blue streak and will again tomorrow no problems just make sure it's the right length mine is only long enough for a swab or distel. Had a bit of trouble getting it to grab my lava. but definantly like it.
